I sat in the car with the wife and my boy for an hour and a half, trying to get there and then trying to find a bloody parking spot.

It ****ed me off. Typical Western Australian Government- don't provide the facilities or any organisational skills.

It would have to be the most poorly organised event in terms of logistics and awareness this state has held. We were all looking forward to seeing it and had to go home.

There was virtually nothing about it in the paper at all with respect to road closure, parking locations etc. The freeway itself had no traffic or road closure notifications prior to getting to the next exit etc.

We were really disappointed. 300,000 people managed to get there but with the way the traffic was on the way back heading both to and from the event I would guess that probably 100,000 or more had to go home.

An awesome turnout but so poorly organised. I know it's probably because it was free but that's no excuse if the government wants to hold an event that is huge on a worldwide scale.........

Man it was totally awsome!! I dont really care about losing rally Australia now.
The walk from Perth, over the Narrows bridge to South Perth was a nice one, despite my girlfriend looking like a lobster today. Then the planes came out! Unreal! The city was such a nice backdrop, the event was really really well put together (But the organisation of roads was terrible, yeh more pre & post media releases would be nice.) The big screens dotted along the shore was a nice touch and boy can those speakers pump out some base!!

Funny too how they had to abandon the pilots drive up to the stage in an 8ft Cadillac and walk coz the crowds were too thick.

Awsome pictures 68 cortina too - Why didnt I take my camera?, ill be driving my ute to a carpark close to Perth next time and riding my bike to South Perth as catching a train was like in Japan where you have to literally squash yourself in with your nose pressed up against someones armpit.

Watched it on TV, was curious as i know nothing about it, was awesome !! They have sizable balls them lot !!

Only thing that ruined the TV coverage was them saying how Championship leader ***** Kelly was there. I had to turn away

Simply Awesome. Had some keen aviator-to-be buddies with me and they loved it.
We were on the South Side of the river near the Four cones set up for the Cuban Half-Eight...Really good vantage point!!
We stayed for the F-18A display. Peter Brejeney was amazing- pulling 11 G's!!
Doesnt matter how much sun cream you put on, the sun seems to boil straight through it hey.
Will definitely be penciling in that one for the next two years...I really hope we have it for longer!

Have to say that from an outsider's perspective, it looked like you guys put on a great atmosphere for the event and REALLY got into it. Congrats.

Sounds like perth has been rewarded with a few more years of the race as well?

Lol, i dont think there's a city in the world that can cope with 400,000 odd people converging upon the one part of the city. Best traffic aversion tip i could ever give is to walk or ride a bike there.

So did i hear Darryl Beattie talking about "when he used to fly this kinda thing" ??

I didnt hear that one about Darryl...

As for transport? Yeah, Walking was the best option by far..or train it to the city...I walked because I only live at West Perth.
Our Crowds were fairly small compared to others held arround the world...try 1 and 1.5 Million!!! Your right EF, the Atmosphere was great and I'm beginning to learn that these West Australians know how to have a good time :baby bott :sm_headba

I think now The City of Perth has seen what will be required, they will put in place new measures next year for Transport and Parking Etc....well...one can only hope.

I loved every minute of it - didn't mind the 30min walk in/out from where i had parked my car, but next year we might take bikes to ride from the car in. We sat near the double (red) gate near the South Perth ferry terminal. Was good because they did a high loop at that point so we got to see the planes even though we were about 20m back from the river behind all the people standing up on the rivers edge.

My only gripe would be the other entertainment, it was very sparse, and with any luck they will rectify this next year. Was alot easier to access than skyworks (Aus day Fireworks - avg crowd over 350,000) and everyone seemed to be well behaved - Although I did hear about some people getting their alchohol confiscated early on.

Me and my mates were going to go in and watch. We were all ready to drive the big treck into perth but we heard over the radio that NO streets around the city were moving and this was by about 11. So we said stuff it and had a bbq, and spent the arvo bowling and at a pool hall. One mate joined us later from the planes and jeez he was red. Cant wait to see him peel haha

Jim, howd the car go sitting in traffic that long? Id imagine it could get pretty freakin hot.

Went down and had a really good time. I managed to get really burnt and my face is burning like hell at the moment.
We left at around 10:30 and crawled on the freeway but managed to find a parking spot down some street. Grabbed the esky out chucked it on a skateboard and down we went did managed to get a few weird looks but beats carrying it.

Was there with the family, but was on the other side of the river, near the Bell Tower. Could see bugger all of the race due to the crowds, but enjoyed the atmosphere just the same.

Got burnt like a piece of toast, the sun was pretty strong, but because the winds were cool, I didn't notice it. Looking forward to download Channel 10's coverage from channel BT (my sources tell me it'll be out today).
