Driving yesterday down Cumberland Hwy downhill to the water canal at Smithfield, and my brakes failed when slowing down. The pedal was really firm. I couldn't push it down. I had to throw it down from drive into 2nd, with the park brake to slow it down. Turned into the side street and fluid level was still at max (but if it wasn't the pedal would have dropped to the floor). I limped it very slowly to my mum's and while driving, every time I put my foot on the brake, a hissing sound came from the pedal, and it was still very firm to push.
I've never heard of this happening before and my B-In-L (who owned the car before me) thinks it might be the ABS relay, and not the brake booster as the pedal is firm, and the manifold hose looks to be intact. Any thoughts??? Richard |

i wouldve said it was either abs pump or a vacuum line to the brake booster so just check them.
cheers josh.

Booster problem. Your brakes will still work good enough to lock wheels up but are going to need a lot more pedal pressure to make them work

another possibilty is................ maybe there is a snake lodged under the brake pedal, it would explain the hard pedal and the hissing noise :nutsycuck
