generally no there isnt, but the security system used in the some of the rios was an factory add on thing, you can by pass it if you really dont want to tow it, i'm not sure if all rios are like this or just the earlier ones. anyway, drop the drivers side dash panel, find your main ignition loom heading to the key barrel,if ih has another loom (in black) connecting to it forming a T connection of wires then you can do it.the system is a plug in job,so you just need to unplug the immobiliser loom and plug the ignition loom back into barrel, the problem being that they put a security box around the plug that you''ll have to hack at, destroy to get to the plug, cant unscrew, sometimes super glued. this may only apply to earlier kia stuff.cant really remember, if not as decribed, dont mess with it, get a tow

I understood the key is a transponder type (pending year) so basically no key, no go, no way.
Dealer should have the VIN on record, that should tell them the security code and key config, they can make it up from that, Ford can at least so why not KIA.

yep they are transponder, i dont believe the rio ever came with factory remotes, but pretty sure the earlier rio's still had the plug in loom, i spoke of, but then maybe i'm thinking of daewoos, ah they're all the same....
i think they'll need to use their plug in computer to recode some keys hence needing the car there at the dealership |
