Hi Everyone,
I treated my 'good lady' to a 2004 Zetec Auto a few months ago and although she is very pleased with the car, it has a niggling problem on start-up. On the initial start in the mornings, the engine speed is 'hunting', therefore when you select 'Drive' or 'Reverse' the car jumps about for the first 20-30 seconds and then it's fine. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike |

What do you mean by "the engine speed is hunting"? When I start my car in the morning it normally idles at 1000rpm for about 1 min or so, and then goes back to 750rpm.
But even if I was in a hurry, my car didnt "jump" when I select "R". Maybe bad fuel? |

The idle speed flicks between 1400 and 1000, hence causing the car to kangaroo down the street when no gas applied!
Already been to Ford dealer...they're as much use as a "handbrake on a canoe"!!! Cheers, Mike |

Could simply be a ECU issue. Reflash the ECU it sounds like a Cold enrichment and idle speed calibration issue.

When I start my car (05 Zetec WP), it sits at 1250rpm while the temp gauge is on stone cold. Does this for about 2 min. Temp gauges jumps up, slows itself down to 1000rpm, then eases down to its normal 750rpm idle.

Air Flow Meter possibly? RPM hunting can sometimes be caused by a faulty AFM.
