hey guys,
just wondering if any of you had any deeper information about vin numbers and chassis numbers... my mate has an imported coupe that he has recently just tried to register, however, he had an engine swap and upon inspection at Queensland roads it appears that the Build number on the vehicle is nowhere to be found, the chassis number was found behind the engine however the build number which normally should have been on the drivers side strut pillar normally wasn;t there :S the difference between these two from what i have been told is that the First letter of the two numbers is different, one starts with F and the other starts with J shouldn;t they just accept the Vin number on the plate and stamped into the chassis instead of having to look for the build number? difference was one letter between the two, and even they knew that... now a surrogate Vin number has to be produced, upon inspection by the police... dunnoe if there is anyone who could provide me with more info, or where the Vin number might be placed cheers :

I had an issue similar to this when i was registering a 59 Austin Healy. The RTA told me the ID Nmber (was either stamped on the fire wall or on the plate rivited to the fire wall, cant remember) belonged to a caravan in WA or somthing like that....
I called the guy who i bought it off (Happened to be the registrar of the club for issuing club plates) and he sent a detailed fax explaining the history of the vehicle as well as the typical and not so typical VIN numbers that have been found on these cars, as well as the previous number plate the car was registered with. Problem was solved staright away. |
