Default new virus going around!

well i'm not sure if its true but i might aswell warn people, it is better to be safe then sorry so here is a message i was sent via email.

WARNING
Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.
Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.
You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation "Life is beautiful."
If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful." Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner."
PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY.

most likely another bogus chain letter but i thought id post it up here just incase.. cheers

Hi Ford Boy

Good idea alerting everyone Re :- Virus , ( Can't be too careful these days ) but I'm afraid this one is a HOAX just to scare people .

From Symantic =

Type: Hoax
SUMMARYSymantec Security Response encourages you to ignore any messages regarding this hoax. It is harmless and is intended only to cause unwarranted concern. Please ignore any messages regarding this hoax and do not pass on messages. Passing on messages about the hoax only serves to further propagate it.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
This hoax was first circulated in Portuguese. English, French, Italian and German versions have also been recorded.

English
URGENT! VIRUS!

This information arrived this morning, from Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who accesses the Internet.
You may receive an apparently harmless email with a PowerPoint presentation called "Life is beautiful.pps."
If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately.
If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful", subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, email and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO STOP THIS VIRUS.
UOL has already confirmed its dangerousness, and the antivirus Softs are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner", and who aims to destroying domestic PCs and who also fights Microsoft in court!
That’s why it comes disguised with extension pps. He fights in court for the Windows-XP patent.

BUT , it is still wise "to delete it" just to be sure .

Thanks for watching out for all of us .

As Norm points out, a bogus scare email for sure, the email itself is virus-like as it willingly passed on to others. Just shows how effective they are though, been circulating for 5 years.

Hi puts99

It's just like kids walking down the street "smashing shop windows" , basically vandalism "via the internet"

A lot of the "send this to everyone you know" e mails are from spammers collecting e mail addresses.

Hmm. There is a new virus coming out every few minutes, i dont see the point in warning everybody of one. Its not like we go 'ok todays monday, lets download all my emails without checking!' then other days where we are warned we decide to check. Always be cautious and you wont have anything to worry about.

That's a good site to check out as well to see if things are bogus or not. I'm forever replying to those e-mails saying "it's a hoax people. Do not forward."

yeah i never send chain mails because they are a rort and a waste of time. i hate getting the same chain letter off like 20 different people. i don't know why people believe them so much. this chain letter had a message about another email so i thought it would be wise just to show people because it could have been real and i would have hated to have known about this email and then someone gets their whole computer shut down.

not everyone will think not to open the email. my sugestion to people is only open emails if they are from your contacts or has a name of someone that you know.

have a good new years people. cya later

Warning: There's a new virus on the loose that's worse than anything I've seen before! It gets in through the power line, riding on the powerline 60 Hz subcarrier. It works by changing the serial port pinouts, and by reversing the direction one's disks spin. Over 300,000 systems have been hit by it here in Murphy, West Dakota, alone! And that's just in the last 12 minutes.

It attacks DOS, Unix, TOPS-20, Apple-II, VMS, MVS, Multics, Mac, RSX-11, ITS, TRS-80, and VHS systems.

To prevent the spread of the worm:

1) Don't use the powerline.
2) Don't use batteries either, since there are rumours that this virus has invaded most major battery plants, and is infecting the positive poles of the batteries. (You might try hooking up just the negative pole.)

3) Don't upload or delete or download files.

4) Don't store files on floppy disks or hard disks.

5) Don't read messages. No, not even this one!

6) Don't use serial ports, toasters, modems, or phone lines.

7) Don't use keyboards, screens, electric toothbrushes, or printers.

8) Don't use switches, CPUs, memories, microprocessors, or mainframes.

9) Don't use electric lights, electric or gas heat, or airconditioning, running water, vibrators, writing, fire, clothing, or the wheel.

I'm sure if we are all careful to follow these 9 easy steps, this virus can be eradicated, and the precious electronic fluids of our computers can be kept pure.

I'm going to assume my anti-virus (PC-Cillin Internet security 2007) has updated to it, it seems like it is updating every hour, probably atleast 6 times a day, so it better bloody have the virus signature in there.
