Well it's finally happened... Over $70 to fill the tank and that will only last me 2 and a half days. Bloody hell!

Tax isnt the issue here. While we have massive taxes on fuel, the current price hike in fuel has been due to global issues of supply/demand. Tax on fuel has not been changed since the federal government stopped indexing the tax against the cpi in 2003.

Shell's website goes into depth on petrol pricing -
http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?...cing_0116.html

Todays price includes 55.3c product cost, 3.7c retail margin and 47.8 in taxes bringing the Shell average price for today to 106.8

Cheapest way to do it? Buy a car already on LPG... ppl hassle ex taxis, but I think they are a viable option as they are pretty well maintained (time off the road = money lost) and are kept at normal running temp for long periods of time (it's the first startup that causes the most amount of wear, and taxis are not turned off as often).

And cos nobody wants them, they're cheap We got our EA (ex company car, not ex taxi) for $2k.

Being a sceptic by nature, I wonder if the oil companies are just testing the water to see if consumers are accepting of a global price rise?

Whilst the oil is running out, here we are whingeing about the price of petrol to run an obselete internal combustion engine design that is over 50 years overdue for replacement and is only 30% efficient. Have we all gone mad?

Still got quite a bit left in the $1000 fuel card I got when I bought the XR, sit back and wait for a while longer before I'll use the rest of it. Ahhh.......

We could do it, but we couldn't convince every last person who believes "Naw, I'll fill up, one person won't matter".

Cowra, NSW(yeah, out in the bush) We just got a United outlet and a price war went on for 2 weeks. Fuel was getting as low as 92.9, now it holds steady at 112.9.

LPG is 54.9
ULP is 112.9 to 116.9
Dist is 125.9
PULP is 122.9 to 126.9
Day in day out.

I wonder will the yhit finally hit the fan when we have to pay $100 to fill our cars?
