Default Number Plates

Hey guys, i have recently obtained personalised plates

however stupid me selected USA Rear plates instead of standard. i tried to ring and cancel but they had already been made, and i cant be stuffed paying to get them changed again.

moral of the story is, the USA rear isnt as wide as the standard plate, so therefore its screw holes are in a different position (about an inch closer together)

today im using self tappers and tape to place the plates on. but how do i fill the old holes smoothly and neatly? wihtout resorting to bog and a respray?

cheers

Mick

If you really don't want to use a bit of bog then touch up paint you could possibly try getting a regular size plate cover and just fill the gaps either side extremely carefully with something metal so as to keep your plate in the one spot.

That sounds kind of painful compared to quickly using bog and touch up paint though eh :

I made sure to order full size (standard) for both my front and rear new plates..Paying over 2 grand, I want as much plate as possible...
I can not wait to have them (they are on layby as I type)

ACL (The same people that do gaskets) do a Stainless steel number plate backing plate (Goes behind your standard plate) You could use on of these to attach your plate to and mount the backing plate in the usual manner.
Or else you could make you own.

They are actually a little over 2 grand and yes I meant for number plates (or in this case, letter plates : )

Mick.. I really don't like that US plate at all.. (but that is just my opinion).
Maybe in real they don't look bad.. anyway, the front one looks totally brilliant on your car..

To plug the holes it would be easiest to do the way you said.. find a grommet and paint it green

You could of got some flat sheet metal, paint it the same colour as the car & then attech the plate to it then fit it to the car.

Well if you look closely to this photo you'll see they are fitted to the car.

You can drill the plates but not in the letter/number bit, that makes them illegal. PPQ will sell you the right plate but it is fairly expensive.

Mental note... When I move back to Qld, never buy custom plates... Man that's expensive... Dearest plate here in Vic is the Euro plate. $595.

That plate is $400 odd 99AAA or AAA99 format, the $2200 ones are the free form up to 7 letters ones.
Up here you own them for ever and can sell them or use them on as many cars as you like although I have seen some funny ones e.g. 90 VCT, used to be on a AU XR6, now on a Subaru.

I will sell mine, FPV F6, if I buy a different type of car.

Good idea, as down here we are restricted to what the collar and tie says we can have. I just freaked when I saw the price tag... LOL That's a Bluepower CAI and Tune with CAPA box... LOL

i dont mind the USA Size, but at the last minute remembered that they are too small and wont fit, tried to call ppq to change but it was too late, the plates had already been made, guess ill just have to wait till im rear ended or something lol.
