Can anybody give me some ideas on how to set up RS2000 escort suspension for sprint racing? and what are the easiest adjustments you can do at circuits? what are the best and cheapest shocks ETC?anyinfo would be great as iam just starting out on doing up the escort for a bit of fun.Thanx Greg...

I'd start by going over the entire car and making sure the bushes are in top condition.

My car is running a big swaybar at the front, variable rate springs and unknown inserts. The rear is Konis and an extra leaf. A lot will depend on what sort of power you have and how fast you really want to go. Escorts can go around corners very quickly, but, like anything, it costs. As rag top said, bushes are a cheap and easy start. Nolathene (I have these front to back) are a huge improvement. I also have a quick rack which makes a real difference. Join a local RS club or check Classic Ford Forum for additional help. R Spec tyres also make an enormous difference, but these are not cheap. have fun.

IMO you will need linear, not progressive springs for a sprint car. Progressive are just that. They have 2 seperate spring rates and thus the shock is set for 1 not the other. Progressive springs for the Escort like King springs are great for road/track use, where comfort and handling are both important. Hard linear springs are alot better for the track, but unsuitable for the road in the way that they are very hard even over the smallest bumps. Track springs, eg. 300+lb front in a linear spring are the go. Linear means the shock , when matched to the spring will work throughout the spring compression. For the rear 150lb+ leaf springs with a matched shock. The shock must be matched to the spring for the combo to work. Adjustable shocks such as Koni's are designed to be adjusted as they wear, not for track suitability. Proflex etc are perfect for track adjustment, but are about $4500+ for a set of 4... I am going Eibach linear springs and non adjustable Bilstien shocks built as fully height adjustable coil overs for the front. The shocks are dyno'd and matched to the springs. Together with adjustable lower control arms and Noltec stut tops the setup costs about $3000 for a complete front and rear setup.
