Hi Guys,
I've got a 2006 ls focus with 28000 km Just driving back from a trip up the blue mountains and heard a clunk under the car and thought I ran over something... Later I noticed my air con wasn't getting cool anymore... Had a look under the car and found the cover plate on the a/c compressor had fallen off and luckilly just hanging on the plastic cover under it. Just thought you guys might want to check yours is tightened securely so this wont happen to you. Off to ford I go... ps... this is the only problem ever had with the car so far... No pinging, no start up probs and have great fuel economy using vortex 98 always around 7.0 to 7.1 litres per 100, lots of highway and its a manual tho. |

The cover is held on with 3-4 bolts,
The assembly team either used the wrong bolts, or You would have hit something pretty badly for it to come off! Tell me if Ford covers it under warranty. |

Extremist, what size bolts are the 3-4 bolts used to hold the cover on and what torque does Ford specify it must be tightened to.

I dunno, but when I took my cover off to clean the dirt, the bolts were pretty tight!
Some of the bolts are over 15cm long which go all the way through the compressor, so its possible your whole compressor unit could have fell off. |

Ford have ordered a new compressor and clutch plate and will be repairing the car on monday with what ever needs doing. The good thing is it's all under warranty.
The piece I found only had one hole in the center so maybe the three bolts you guys are talking about are on the road somewhere with more bits??? Either way I dont think bits should just fall off a car not yet 12 mths old. |

The reason they have the warranty is to cover workmanship, so if anything goes wrong, it'll go wrong in the first three years of owning the car, just like yours did.
