Nice car powerful engine and damn strong. Bottom end has 6 bolt mains. 4 in the caps and two from the side. Zoom did a write up on it and regarded it highly.

They are a massivly over engineered engine, near indestructable...

I once heard one that had a full exhaust, and it sounded like two WRX's accelerating togerther...

Dont know much about the cars themselves, but lexus have a pretty good rep...

One of the few jap cars I would consider owning

I had one a few years ago. Very nice car for cruisin and they are no slouch either. Sounds nice with almost any type of exhaust. The engines are bullet proof (as with most toyotas).

They have a forum also: http://www.lexusaustralia.org/entry.htm
The forum has changed a bit since a few years ago but I'm sure they will help you out.

Unfortunately no manuals. I looked at converting and was quoted about $3,500.

A mate of mine just bought a V8 Soarer, very nice car, especially for the age, smooth engine, auto's a little average but once again good for the age, doesn't have as much pull as i expected, but they are pretty restricted from the factory, overall a good car.

The same mates dad has a 4.0L V8 going into a 80's supra that thing is going to eat my XR8 for Breaky!

one of the night club owners up here has the V8 soarer.................its been heard that he has spent 20,000 on the motor alone, and judging how bloody quick it disappears,it would not surprise me.It is painted in i think a Blueprint type colour very, very quick

Few nice ones getting around here. Also the Toyota TT jobs are good too. Lexus is power and luxury in one though.

I wanted one at one stage until I saw the absence of a stick shift and clutch peddle.

Well, auto only is a big problem, although there are adapter plates available from the US to fit the getrag 6 speeder behind the 1UZ, but budget at least 10k for your troubles. The motors are apparently quite strong, but N/A they're a little limited. Stroker cranks are very expensive, but the motors do respond well to forced induction. That's about all I can remember about them, other than they rev out very smoothly, but they don't seem to be very quick stock.

I know they have problems with the interior (well at least the limited's do), with parts like aircon vents etc cracking over time.

parts are pricey for these ,but for a smooth luxury mile eater they are very good, no brainer for me it would be the soarer,as mentioned just check electricals, timing belt change intervals, suspension and door hinges.

Cant say ive driven a soarer but i can comment about the soarer and 1UZ-FE after having driven LS400's and the latter LS430s and after have a good look over some of the half decent articles on Autospeed

The motor is the perfect beast for a luxury car in stock form and does have the right ingredients to make serious power when blown, but personally if you are after a seriously quick soarer youd be better of with the imported 1JZ-GTE (Forget the 2JZ ones they are s..l..o..w) Furthermore the later is better Toyota was constantly doing small changes and i believe that every v8 Soarer post 1997 got the VVti motor and quite a few mechanical updates

Imported soarer's are of course a can of worms stuff like Airbag suspension has a penchant for going wrong bigtime, but on the ossie ones they are pretty reliable; afterall back in 1989 Lexus/Toyota originally intended for these things to last 1 million kays if maintained by the book

NA-T kit's for the 2JZ are quite common, and in turbo form they're apparently one of the most bulletproof motor's ever built (and almost as good in atmo form).

i totally agree on thier strength but the are quite a bit down on power to the 1jz 25 l twin turbo

my family imported a couple hundred soarers and never got 1 crook v8 and only a 2 turbos that had issues

when buying check for cracks in the door panels near the speakers , power steering pump leaking filling up alternator and drive it over a couple of speed bumps to check the rubbers , blinky dash can be an issue but i got a guy up here that fixes em for 70 bucks .

over all the soarer is a realy cheap way ot get into performance luxury . i raced one for a couple of years and loved it .it was one of the last cars to do a quick lap around lakeside

The motors are absolutely awesome. Around 700-800hp capability on the bootom end if you ever wanted to try a squeeze some power out of it. You probably dont but it gives you a bit of testament to the make up of the engine. A bit of a cult engine really with that sort of ability as people are dropping them into all sorts of vehicles, adding boost and having fun. Good thing is you can "beef up" the trans as well with people like MV Automatics here in Adelaide having done one that i know of, a 1UZ into Cressida.

Well, the engine is good, but the car is ugly as sin if you ask me. Id take any R32 over a Soarer. To many "cool" 50/60 y.o's driving them for my liking.

They are pretty heavy for their size, hence slow stock. Also I find them pretty damn ugly...

I have the 1UZFE in a BMW drag car. The engines have all forged components (crank, rods, pistons, etc. They are underpowered in stock trim (200kw), but respond very well to forced induction. I have seen twin turbo ones with 600rwkw on a standard motor.
There is a dragster in WA that has pushed the boundaries of this motor. Apparaently the block itself becomes a weakness at over 2000hp!

manual R33 can be bought cheaper than R32 in a lot of cases, **** end fell out of the market. The RB25DET is a good improvement over the RB20DET.

If you go a soarer get the TT unless you really want a V8.

There's also the Aristo and Chaser if you want a sedan instead. All in a similar price range to the R32 all with pretty good engines.

Great engine! Enough power when stock, respond really well to mods...

Lots of details at http://lextreme.com

Very smooth to drive in stock form, with enough power to get up and boogie when needed..

They also fit in E-Series engine bays well.... ;-)
