I am sure a lot of you would have seen my posts that keep repeating that insurance works on statistics. This is a prime example.
It could be as simple as the turbo territory is not as popular as the TX territory therefore there are less of them on the books and perhaps that number of them on the books have had less accidents/claims percentage wise than the TX counterpart.

Out of interst, I tried the AAMI online quote for my car 04 BA XR8. Age 49, postcode 2145

No problem, on-line quote of $1620 which is $200 less than NRMA.

Then tried it with BA 04 XRT.

Response:

We were unable to offer you an automatic online insurance quotation as we need some additional information.

Please specify:
Where was the car purchased? (For example, name of dealership)
Who is your current insurer?
Where will the car be parked during the day and night?
Is your car fitted with security features, such as QuikTrak alarm or immobiliser?

I didn't bother answereing this and it's not to say they wouldn't insure me, but, no automatic on-line quote.
