To all the drummers....
Anyone successfully "silenced" an accoustic drumkit so as not to annoy the neighbours? Don't particularly want to go down the route of an electronic drumkit....

I personally use a sheet or a blanket, if you want to go the trouble take the skins off and put a sheet or something under there and put the skins back on, take the Front Skin Off the Bass drum and put some pillows in there, and maybe put an old pillowslip over the Cymbals, or something like that.

Boring as they sound, bit's of thin rubber cut to suit from Clark rubber, failing that, take the towel option .

I have half my room insulated with proper studio foam (yuo kow the black stuff with the pattern in it) and it is bloody good stuff. Not cheap though.
Best ive found is either towels, or a sleeping bag stuffed with blankets put inside your bass drum.

The best i have is a signed picture of the members of Voivod (most notably former Metallica bass player Jason Newsted), and one of my basses is also signed by him too.

You can buy rubber thingos that go over the skins, theyre pretty cheap, pre cut to your tom / snare size. and dont take away any of the feel of hitting a real drum. You will still get your drum sound but at about 1 / 10th of the volume.
They also make ones that go over your cymbols, and will not create any noise. Perfect for late night practicing. My old teacher used to have these on one of his kits, worked very well.

I don't like using towels over the toms and snare, they completely destroy the feel of the drums. Those rubber things sound pretty good.

Also, try out a few types of sticks. Standard, bamboo (aka Hot Rods (tm)), brushes, etc. Failing all that, use dynamics :voldar02:
