Default Go-Karting Advice

Hey all,

I was wondering does anyone here race go karts on the weekends? The reason I ask is because I was going to buy an old escort, do it up a little and then race it at a place just out of Geelong but I just haven't had time.

Since then, it was suggested that I try go-karting. Its cheaper and as I rent with some friends I dont really have a huge garage to store a car and trailer.

So basically Im after some info. What categories are out there? Prices of karts and licences etc etc.

This will basically be a hobby as I am over spending cash on my car; so to hoon around on the weekend go-karting seems like a good idea. Plus you never know, it could lead to other things.

Oh by the way, I am in Geelong, so obviously the closer the better.

Thanks in advance for the advice! :hihi:

If you wanna have a quick look at go-kart prices go to www.my105.com they should have second hand go-karts there.

Go Karting is mucho fun matey .......... not cheap to set up(can be upto $5k) .... but fun & can be expensive depending on how far you want to go .......

I know this as my eldest used to race in the Midget catagory ........ from memory it goes something like this ;)

7 - 10 Midgets

11- 13 Rookies

13 - 16 Juniors

Then you start on your Senior sections whick include but not limited to Lightwieght, heavys, super heavy ....... depends on which club you join as to how many senior divisions they have ......

There are many & varied karts & the best advise I could give you is go down to the local club & check them out ............ Personally I wouldnt buy a Kart from the trading post as most of them arnt legal examples ............ There are as many if not more rules in Karting than the Super V8's as far as scrutineering goes....... sounds strange but true ........

If you want any more advise let me know in PM & I will contact one of the blokes who helped us out ...... your weight & height will help me if you want to go this far ;) ..... I can let you know what division you should be in then :P

The idea of an Escort for the dirt oval speedway sounds good to me. A lot cheaper than comp go-karting.
