The info on the monaro's race cars is available just about anywhere. It’s true they were never production cars but they never pretended to be either. It’s also true they were 'likened' to the ill fated 427 special but nobody (at least at Holden) ever said they were based on that car or vise versa. The promoters of the series wanted a local car to compete with the fazza's, lambos' and the odd special hand built imports that were the front runners in Nations Cup and GT Sports car category, so Holden and Gary Rodgers Motor Sport built them a couple of aussie hotrods to take on the best from around the world. Trouble seems to be that the other cars were actually modified road models and the monaro’s were race cars under a street car shell. Anybody ever seen a Diablo GTR in this country? Does anybody remember the hand built pommie thing they brought out for the first 24 hour? Or do we just slag, bag and rag Holden because they happen to respond faster than Ford does to marketing opportunities?
The truth is easy to bend and shape to suit your arguments and like the old saying goes........ "never……… let the truth get in the way of a good story" and it certainly has no place in a good old fashioned bench race or argument either. |

One other reason that the public were dissapointed about the ghost monaro is that holden had taken a large amount of money in the way of deposits off the public to show that were actually going to build these car when they always new they werent ,they lied to australia from word go.
what about joe bloggs and his mates that handed over 100k deposits for a long period of time, think about the interest they could have made on that money instead of giving to holden for a dead set ripoff lie

<start rant> I can remember the other cars that were competing against the Monaro. I knew that there were Mosslers in America, I knew that BMW has built 10 "cheater" road-going M3 GTR's to qualify for an American series. The Challenge Ferraris, Porsche 911 RS CS, Mazda RX7 Sp's and things didn't bother me, because I knew that they were actually road cars <end rant>.
Good luck to this series, I hope that it suceeds and it really seems like a step in the right direction.

In many ways the 7L "V8supercar" Monaro killed off any chance that production car racing would get any credibility and popularity in Australia..
In the end i think everyone got sick of the 2 rule system.

Nations Cup wasn't Production Racing, that's why they ended up splitting Nations Cup and GT-P into 2 seperate races.
Was there a rule stopping Ford from doing the exact same thing as Holden? Quote:

Still, I don't see what this has to do with a 12hr race being held for sub-100K production cars. Or do we just feel the need to do some more Holden bashing?

A couple of good drivers at the wheel of the XR8. It will be interesting to see if it can keep up with the XR6T's...

I'll be suprised if the XR8 with JB at the wheel doesn't blow the XR6T into the weeds from driver ability alone. |

The Spec C would pretty much kill anything we get here. This will be interesting to watch. You got the Jap cars who are good on the corners and are limited on the straights particularly at Bathurst with Conrod (due to short ratios assuming gearbox mods aren't allowed?) and then you have the F6 Phoon which is an exceptional straight line car and has ability in corners. Too bad we only get a measely 2hrs on FTA out of a whole 12 _ |

The Typhoon entry from Robinson Racing Developments intrigues me. Weren't they the ones who helped with development work on the Drif6. Possible factory backed entry?
