hi, i'm just doing my research on exhausts before i get mine done, is there any difference between a full twin exhaust system, and a system that collects before the muffler? The vehicle is an au11 xr8 ute. I have noticed that most shops will fit out a single system that collects before the muffler while other people run a twin system all the way through. Thoughts and advice much appreciated.

dont know much about exhaust systems but always heard a 2 into 1 system before the muffler produces a more deep burble v8 distinctive sound .

Go a full twin but you MUST get them to use a balance pipe just behind the cats, NOT a X pipe, some Redback or Mercury straight through mufflers with a pair of short resanators before the mufflers, That should sound great..OR www.liverpoolexhaust.com.au.... hope this helps....

I had an AU2 XR8 ute. I had a system done at Allcare in pakenham. I split the system totally. Cats back All 2 1/2 inch.
The stock system uses 2 in 2 out mufflers. I ****ed them off and used a 1 in 1 out strait through muffler for each side. The left bank never joined the right bank. It doesn;t mean you cant run a balance pipe I just chose not to. I had a pipe in each corner at the rear. It looked great and sounded like an old style XW XY V8 without the HUGE mother cam.

I had twin 2-1/4 straight through mufflers and tailpipes (no rear muffler) on my AU XR8 series 1 5 speed and deleted the balance pipe and car sounds great and goes much better car went from a consistent 15.5 @ 96mph 1/4 mile to a 14.4 @ 104mph

Original for AU1/2/3 XR8 is 2-1/4". It changes to 2" from the rear of the muffler to the tips. This is for the sedan.
IMO, for upto the 220kw 5.0w engines, 4 into 2 into 1 Extractors (Tri-y), 2-1/4" all the way from the extractors to the tips, with hi-flow cat's and centre offset mufflers (ie: enters from one side of the muffler and exits from the centre) is the way to go.

I have a twin pipe system all the way with no balance pipe because I'm one too that love that crackling V8 sound. Mine was done by Liverpool exhaust & there work is good.

Yeah extractors are next on the list but with my new $420 exhaust im very happy with the performance and i love the sound.
And AUIIIXR8 if you ever want it louder try removing the rear muffler and boy does that make it bark |
