Hi all,
I have a AUIII Futura and the $2 globe has obviously blown that displays gear selection and I have NO IDEA where to start removing pieces so that I can replace it. When I had my car serviced last, they charged me $18 dollars to replace a globe (yes, I made a fuss of it too), so I def. dont want to take it back there! Any guidance would be appreciated!! Thanks! |

basically you need to remove the centre console to access the globe.
in a quick run down, there are 6 bolts, 2 under the ashtray bit, 2 under the cupholder and 2 on the floor at the back of the console. revove all of them and the gear stick. i put the selector in 1st and then just pulled around at the console til it came out. if you have a rear footwell courtesy light, you need to unplug that as well. then you have access to the gear selector. start pulling parts off it til you get to the light and bobsyouruncle.

For a cheap but really effective mod, replace the bulb with a coloured parker. I put a blue one in mine, and it make no difference during the day, but at night it lights up blue, and makes the orange selector panel look more red...

The standard bulb is a 12vx2w wedge. If you want to change the colour of the display, then it is better to get a brighter 12vx5w bulb.
Once you have the console removed, the bulb holder is on the Drivers side of the selector housing and is easily removed without taking anything else off or dismantling anything. I have just replaced mine with a 5watt blue bulb and I think it looks much better and it is easier on the eyes. Here's a night view of the one I did; Last edited by Chippar; 08-04-2007 at 11:11 AM. |

FTW = For the Win. It's supposed to mean grouse, or Ace, or any of those older words to describe something good.
