I'm just after some directions..
I've got a plane in to Sydney on Thursday and need to know the cheapest/easiest way to get to Acer Arena from the airport, if anyone could help me out that'd be great. I haven't been to Sydney in a long time, so i'm completely new to the public transport system and so on. Is there a bus shuttle out from the airport into the CBD at all like melbourne? Is Acer arena even near the CBD? Heh. Also, can't really afford accomodation so i'm planning to stay/wait in the airport until the flight out the next morning (6am). I take it the domestic part of the airport isn't 24hrs, but the international part is, is that correct? Cheers guys. |

Not sure where Acer Arena is. But there is a train that takes you from the Airport to Town Hall/Central Station. Check out www.131500.info for public transport timetables and such for travel planning. Hope that helps.

1. You could go by train to central, change and go Olympic Park. Direct services run from Central for major events or you can catch a bus from Strathfield station or a shuttle train from Lidcome.
2. You could catch the 400 bus from outside the Airport terminal to Burwood Station and train from there to Strathfield (next stop) 3. You could jump in a TAXI, its a fairly direct route and probably the cheapest way if there is more than two of you. Staright into M5 east tunnel, turn right at King Georges Road and go straight ahead until you get to Homebush, Probably cost you $30-$40 tops. |

Acer Arena is the old Superdome at the Olympic park site. Get off at the Olympic park site and I think it's about a 400m walk. http://www.acerarena.com.au/?p=23 |

Cheers guys. I have no idea where these places are, but i'm sure I can find it alright, haha.
I looked on the site, and it said for the chili's on the thursday night: CityRail is running direct shuttle services every 10 minutes between Lidcombe and Olympic Park Station from 5.30am until 12.00am. Customers attending the concert must interchange at Lidcombe. There are no direct services from Central to Olympic Park for this event. Would I still most likely be able to get a non direct train from central to olympic park? And if not, I take it I can get to Lidcombe from central? Cheers guys. I'll probably catch a Taxi back to the airport being late and all, seems easiest. Anyone know the company names/have numbers for taxi's in sydney? Thanks. |

On the top left of the map scroll through to your station. When you hit Central, you'll jump off at platform 20/21. Go down the stairs at the far far ends of the platform (some platforms have stairs at the middle of the platform, don't go down these or you'll probably get lost and you'll probably want to make your way to platform 18/19 This pic has 18/19, with 20/21 in the background. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ion_Sydney.jpg Getting the Lidcombe trains fairly easy, travel for 30 mins to Lidcombe, then head over to the Olympic Park Sprint train |

Also probably best to use the trains to get back home again - they run them frequently enough to justify it. Additionally there have been some horror stories using cabs from Olympic Park back to the city - apparently when u2 was on, the demand for cabs was so high they were trying to charge upwards of $100 for a ride back to the city. |

Dave au - When you mentioned $14, is that just from the airport to central? If so, do you know how much a normal return city rail ticket is? Am I right in saying that if you get a single ticket you can only use it once? Wierd system.. In melb you buy them buy time, so you can go to as many stations as you want, one way/return/whichever etc. Cheers. |

Your not staying the night?
Domestic-olympic park-domestic ticket return is $23.50 for an adult. Your correct on the single ticket. You can however get a day tripper pass that would allow unlimited travel between the major city stations but you won't be needing that. |

Where are you staying mate? That'd have a bearing on how you get to acer as well. Stay away from cabs if you can, our taxi system is a disgrace compared to other major aussie cities, cabbis here are all either immigrants who don't speak english and stink, or rip off merchants like what the other guys were talking about...
Trains, as bad as they are in Sydney, are the best bet, especially if you're going back to the city. A return to olympic park from the city is around 10 bucks in peak times (before 9 in the morning and from 4-6 at night if memory serves) and 8 bucks at other times... For that price, you can't go wrong! Have fun at the concert mate! Think or us poor bastards sitting here listening to CD's!!! lol... |

I'm staying in the airport if it's open 24 hours (international), heh. Otherwise i'm just going to book a cheap motel.. But there's not much point as i'll leave the concert around 11.30-12 and then have to get up at 4ish for my flight.
5tumpy - I think i'll take the trains ;) Though this is the second time i'm seeing them + their show at fed sqaure, heh. Wish I would have gone to more of em, won't be back for a while! Gasoline - Fair enough :p I saw on the map that there's a train (or something) between them, so i'll plan to hang around the international aiport for a few hours and drink lots of coffee (ewwww) then go back to the domestic. I'll be able to get a train back to the airport around 12am (midnight) yeah? |

I'm from Melb, so i'll be coming back on a 6.30 flight. Which means if i'd stayed in the city somewhere i'd probably have to get up around 4-4.30 to make sure I got to the airport in time (seens i've never been around the area). I'm off to the airport now, so hopefully all goes well. If not, bit of an adventure =P Cheers guys! |

Is there a point to hire a car for 1 day?
At least you will have somewhere to chill out overnight.

Hire car would probably cost about the same as taxi/trains anyway by the time you figured it out... Strange but true....
Or hire a camper for 1 night...... the ultimate in travel transportation.... |

Well im back, all fine and dandy.
I wanted to hire a car and stay in it, but you have to be over 25 to hire one (bleh). Ended up the airport wasnt open 24 hours, so I stayed in a hotel in Sydney that the aiport organised.. Was an alright place but a bit of a waste of 100 or so bucks as I only stayed in there for a few hours! Was good to have a shower and a couple hours after the concert though as I was sweaatty as. PS. If theres any chilis fans reading this... they played catholic school girls rule, soul to squeeze and closed with higher ground.. three songs I never thought i would ever see live ever, especially being 20 years old some of them! Thanks for the help guys |
