I have owned an EL GLi wagon and a BA SR, my Bro in law has an AU Ghia my dad an EL GLi sedan.
All very reliable cars. MY el wagon had a problem with auto solenoid at jsut under 110,000 km. I squealed loudly coz it was guna cost over a grand and the car so close to warantee. So they agreed to pay half. Other then that no dramas for 250,000 km, then it got heavily shunted at traffic lights by some idiot in 4wd too busy looking at girls on foot path to see i was stopped coz the light was RED. It was never quite the same so i sold it. The AU ghia is immaculate with over 100,000km no major drama. Damn its nice to drive/ride in. The BA has had a couple of very minor niggles, the horn failed and something came loose in the auto selector. All fixed nicely thank you by the dealer under warantee. I bought it brand new and have put 120,000 fabulous fun KM on it now The el sedan has about 200,00 on it.. in that time it has had a new water pump and a new exhaust, but shes starting to look and feel a bit "old and tired" now. but my dad treats his car like awheelbarrow. us it drive it, walk away, get it looked at if it refuses to go, ignore it the rest of the time. And it has never been garaged. Thats my only experience with ford build and reliability... |

In my opinion they are very well-engineered cars that are very well put together. No doubt the Impreza is built to a budget and they do develop rattles but what Ford doesn't do that? I have thoroughly tested the driveline strength of my cars and aside from a blown engine that was my fault I have had no problems whatsoever. Just for the record, I'm a died in the wool Ford man. My first 2 cars were a Clevo-powered XE and an ED XR6 but I've had 5 turbo Subarus since then. The most recent addition is a Liberty GT and my old man has commented that the interior finish and features in his Territory Ghia are not really in the same ballpark. Don't get me wrong-I'm not suggesting you are telling fibs, I'm just saying that maybe you had an isolated experience, that's all. Cheers, Ben |
