Default How do you tell????

In an AUII XR8 how do you know if it is a 220KW V8 (besides the badge that can be bought from any Ford Spares)?

The 70mm throttle body on the 220kw has Tickford wings on it, but that can be changed too.

Easiest way is to ring Ford and ask them to check on their system.

I have asked this question, obviously because I am looking to buy a AUII or later XR8. I no longer have my XR6T.

The car I'm looking at, was built on the 28/06/01. It has a 220 badge on the boot and the Tickford wings on the TB.

I supplied the vin number to my local Ford dealer who claims that it is only a 200kw version and that the 220 was not released till August 2001.

I will do a search also, but any info supplied will be greatly appreciated!

I thought it was April 01 when the 220's came into play myself, if youve got the VIN ring Ford CRC (13 FORD) and they will be able to look it up, I wouldnt trust the dealer.

Thanks for your advise. I contacted Ford CRC, and they confirmed that it is only a 200kw engine! How easy can one get caught.

I think you're right. August 01 was when the AUIII just about came out. I am sure the XR8s were running around with 220kw V8s for about 6 months before the T-Series got an upgrade.

Interesting that someone would go to that length to change it i.e. putting the badges on. That said though, mine is a 200kw (ute) and has the 70mm TB which was added by Herrod, so its not a difficult thing to do.

Best advise is to just go for the latest build you can find, anything late 01 or 2002 would be my pick.

So I have come to the conclusion that in an AUII, there is no 100% way besides possibly on a dyno confirming what engine it has.

1 Ford representative says 220 based on the build date, another says 200 based on the chassis number.

Kloster Ford spares here in Newcastle when they use the vin number for spare part purposes, states that engine components ie: cam etc is 200kw.

This is not an attack on the owner of this particular XR, nor am I implying anything sinister. I'm just confused as to even Ford who built this car don't aggree!

The confusion with the S11XR 8 is that both motors were avalible I orderd mine new in early August on a friday but was then told on the next monday that the 220 motor will be avalible for all XR8s deleverd after the 1st of october for a additional cost of $1200 as well as a few other cosmetic changes that will become standard on the S111 this is why you get both build dates with differant motors on the S11s apart form the T/body they are hard to tell apart .A lap around the block in both will confirm which is the 220 if they are both relatively stock the 220 is a far more resposive across the range .. :

Thanks Whoosha, that does explain a lot. The AUII Rebels all came with 220kw engine right?
