RECORD PRODUCTION FOR AUSSIE TOYOTAS

Workers at Toyota Australia's Melbourne manufacturing plant produced a record number of cars in the first three months of 2007.

Toyota Australia said its 3000-strong workforce built more than 33,000 cars in the quarter - an increase of 22.4 per cent over the same period last year.

The company said the increased production was due primarily to higher local demand, which was up more than 50 per cent in the three months.

Toyota builds the mid-size four-cylinder Camry and the large V6 Aurion at the state-of-the-art plant at Altona in Melbourne's western suburbs.

Both cars are sold in Australia and exported to more than 20 countries.

Overseas sales are expected to reach 90,000 this year with the biggest demand coming from the Middle East.

In Australia, sales of the two locally manufactured cars were more than 11,400 in the first three months of the year, an increase of 51.2 per cent over the same three months of 2006.

The success of the Camry and Aurion helped Toyota post a first-quarter Australian industry sales record of 56,230 vehicles.

First-quarter production of 33,631 cars makes Australia the third biggest Camry and Aurion producer outside Japan.

Only the United States and China build more.

Seriously it's good news for the local car industry. Heard that Altona workers got a 6% pay rise. Can't wait for the export program from Holden and Ford to really kick off.

Seriously, Ford needs to start brown nosing the Seppo bosses to score some export opportunities, like what GM US has done for Holden.

Is Australia in a good position to export cars?

Our dollar value is strong against the US dollar and from what I heard Holden actually lost money on the Pontiac GTO because of this.

What are the external dimension differences between the "Mid Size Camry" and the "Large Aurion"??????

They share the same cabin. Or does engine size dictate the cars size now??

I think I read that the Camry is now the largest and most heavy 4cyl car in Australia.

Good for Toyota, they are bringing dollars into the country however, which we all see the benefit of in some way or another.

Ford need an export plan for the middle east. They like big V8 RWD sedans. Probably because a tank of fuel is $20 over there!

Reading today AGE news paper in Melb, Toyota must be over stocked there flogging them off from $30,888 drive away, free 12 months comprehensive insurance and $100 fixed priced servicing...
You would be able to knock I bit more of the advertised price.
Maybe time to slow production..

One thing to build them, selling them is another story! Ideally you want enough to keep up with demand and that's it. Overstock is bad but they have shitloads of money anyway.

Probably a Captain Obvious statement there though

The Aurion is about 5mm longer. Thats it, the front bumper probably sticks out a nano more. Its still a Camry but with a slightly different front and rear look. Height, wheelbase and width are the same.

Overstock Aurion = yes
Overstock Camry = no

Toyota run campaigns on heaps of different cars every month. The current campaign on Aurion/Camry with the insurance etc is no different..

If anything, they should be marketing Sportivo Camry/Aurion because they don't sell well as they are not marketed at all.
