Default The days and the lives of the Drag Racer

When I first got the car, I fitted a exhaust system and a airbox upgrade and it made 192rwkw. First time at the drags I went 13.89 @ 103mph

After the diff and clutch went, I got new LSD and fitted a heavier duty clutch. With the same 192rwkw, I went 13.44 @ 104mph

Then came edit a first tune of 218rwkw netted me a 13.22 @ 105mph

Retune later on achieved 234rwkw and got me a 13.08 @ 104mph

Now, with 240-250rwkw I ran a 12.92 @ 110mph

All of the above was done on the standard diff gears, full weight and second hand rubbish junk tyres pinched from the back of TyrePower.

Now with the 3.9’s fitted and a bit more tuning, I have achieved a best mph of 112.1

The diff gears made the whole quarter mile easier on the car and also quicker off the line. But with the poxy *** tyres, im only going slower due to loss of traction hindering my 60’ and ET. My first ever runs with the 3,9’s got me two 13.0’s upfront, now to achieve that on the standard 3,46’s would take a few goes to master the launch as I was hitting 4th just on the line with the standard diff gears, where with the 3,9’s, I was using most of 4th maintaining a shift RPM 0f 6000

In turn, a proper setup etc tyres, suspension and weight loss will achieve a better ET.

Obviously I am basing this on my 1650kg SS and a different IRS setup to Fords,

Simon what is your car like now after so many drag runs...i mean is there some rattles, clunks etc or has most of that been drivetrain related and been replaced or fixed?

Those low 13's are good for under 220rwkw too. When the VE comes out and power and weight of Ford vs Holden is similar, it'll be interesting to see how they compare

How does it handle? Is it easy to get those gear changes accurate with that clunker gearbox? or do you abort a few runs every now and then? Diff and clutch with only 192rwkw?...thats a great diff!
Those low 13's are pretty good for under 220rwkw.

the more power you make the harder it is on street tyres. the engine had a rebuild at 80k for oil. its pretty loose so it makes a bit of valvetrain noise. yhea rodderz most of it is driveline clunks, which most have been replaced if not all. bushes etc get tired after a while, so they get replaced. Im approaching 200 passes. im on my 2nd gearbox, i preferred the first one is was a lot looser and i could give it a hiding. this one is good starting to loosen up now.

my 13.89 @ 103mph was the first time i ever raced my car.
The 13.44 @ !04mph was done after the clutch and diff was replaced, it felt so tighter!! and they were done on the SP Sport 3000A (gun tyres!!!!)

Have to agree, i am a big fan of these tyres sp 3000, better than the more expensive sp 9000.

I have 3000A somthing tyres. Sorry for the lack of info. I put them on just before i went to willowbank last week. They got me 2.1 and below 60ft times in the ute so i was happy with them especially for the cost $230 odd per tyre. I've put more expensive tyres on and had more traction problems. IRS is not an option on the cave man AU Ute rear suspention. leaf spring anyone.
I need the leaf for tools and cargo weight... IRS would be so nice though.

I agree. They feel like they grip better, are a lot quieter and are cheaper to boot.
