Anyone fitted a 600x300 mm intercooler to their AU?

I have removed my front bar so i can have a trial fit of my intercooler tomorrow, but it looks like there could be a problem fitting it.

Relocating the horns is no problem but there is a cluster of piping to the right of the bay (from front on) and several pipes for the aircon down the bottom. I don’t really want to alter these but if required i will have to.

I am just curious as to whether anyone has successfully fitted an intercooler of this size to their AU. If you have can you please give me some tips.

I've been led to believe it can fit without any cutting up of the bar etc.

Crescent Motors (liverpool) did the install on that au xr6 in the pic I posted. I have their number if you need it.

Yeah that might be handy. I just got my cooler today and from the looks of it, its going to be a tight squeeze. With all that said i havent moved the horns or wiring etc yet so it may not be as tight with it all moved.

Lox, i know that AU XR6 turbo in question, and that cooler on it is bigger than a 600x300, its a 720x300.. and it did require a fair bit of chopping to make it fit.

the 600x300 is alot easier to fit, but still requires some chopping of the inner support to fit.

Can u post those pics up Crazy AU? Im doing the same thing, just a trial fit for now.

If anyone can post up what needs to be cut, that would be handy too. My intercooler is the same size.

This is an old image, but I think its only a 450 x 300 anyway.

I personally think the 450x300 is a little small.

In the pic above of the red falcon, that has taken ALOT of work to do, the egg crate rubbish has been removed and its not going back on.
The actual bar support you see there has been moved forward and the front bar has been chopped and changed on the inside so it can fit back on. If you look closely at it you can see the brackets and the mounting points. That front support now sits where the egg crate stuff used to be.
Its alot of work, but its easier to do it this way to make the front bar fit back on properly because you dont have to chop out as much of the bar. Chopping a front bar up to fit a cooler behind it makes them a little flimsy and weak. But its alot less work.

But doing this the front end isnt as strong as stock, and if you have a front ender it will do a little more damage and either way your cooler will need replacing.

I put the front bar back on today, bit earlier then expected as a mate needed some fuel (stupid *** lives out of town and forgot to fill up..)

So the project of fitting the cooler has been put back a few weeks now even thought the front bar is pi$$ easy to take off.

So i will have to do a bit of fiddleing but i will see how it go..

I also bought the Davies Craig 11" x 10" trans cooler. I dont know if its true but the transcooler i got it better then the PWR with little air flow, and seeming i wont have as much flow as i should its should be a better option. If it isnt im not too fussed just thought i would give this brand a go.

Ive bought a 600x450x80 cooler and I have the 11x10" pwr tranny cooler aswell, so ill have to navigate around that. My front bar is the series one XR style kit which was put onto a fairmont so it has the big lights, ill get some pics up as well once i take everything off. I think ill be cutting the bar, not modifying the frame if I can help it.

Hopefully i have it at least mounted by the FPV day, I doubt ill get time for piping once i move batteries and things like that.

Had a look at everything, it looks like I might get away with minimal cutting. We'll be moving the pwr steering cooler...well removing it, and cutting a small section of the bar. Should be interesting - seems to be just enough space with 10mm to spare.

The cooler will hang about 5cm under the bar, but i have a Rav4 Sump guard made of steel we are going to play with - which will bolt nicely to the cross member.

I had a trial fit today and as mentioned before, im going to have to cut into the bar.. the little lip at the bottom is going to cause a fair few problems..

Also the air-con bits to the right of the bay might cause some poo aswell.

So going to go to natrad and have a chat to them about re-locating them.

A question for people who know what they are talking about.. What is the little plug located between the horns. It look like a sensor of some sort and just curious whether to be careful with it. I dont want it to be an airbag sensor and i somehow bugger omething up.

Whats it look like. If its a black box its the airbag sensor, if its a little white thing its the ambient temp sensor for your climate control.
