Apparently no, they are quite stable. there is very little weight in them, especially where its not needed...Glued plastic.... Designed my M.B...

Id rather crash that then my Fairmont. Thats at faster than we are allowed to travel in QLD, have a look how well it holds together. There is no mass trying to push it through the wall.
There is also another vid floating around of smart Vs. High end merc. The smart car demolishes it, it pretty much ends up intact, at the windscreen of the Merc, just ploughs through it, and Mercs arent lightweight cars.

And the brakelights on the 430 don't turn off untill the SmartCar is well launched. Equal drivers and not a chance.

Have you seen that episode of 5th Gear? The SmartCar does hold up, but thats not what you want. You want crumple. Crumple, crumple, crumple. You want a car to absorb the energy, a metal cushion if you like. 5th Gear said no-one would have survived. The smartcar just transfers the energy into the occupants and in affect slams them into a wall at 70 kays. Give me your Fairmont any day.

f430 does high 11/low 12 second pass. staged vid to make the smart look better than it is.

in the you tube vid there is no real indication of the speed. there are other euro's on track but who's to say they were hard at it.

hayabusa motor in a smart would have very little torque i would think as well.
