Just curious, what diff ratio did the AU Fairmont Ghia sedans get? I'm sure most were not LSD but were they 3.45 or something else?

Ghias didnt get LSD and wasnt an option either as they had 4 channel ABS and Traction control (which would put the brakes on the spinning wheel thus transferring drive to the other wheel) and im pretty sure it was 3.45:1 ratio

The fairmont Ghia and the VCT XR6 in auto have exactly the same drive train. ecu changes the gears differently and the 215/55R16 vs 235/45R17 tyres and wheels is the only difference i can think of.

LSD was not fitted and was not an option in the series one but was optional in the series two onwards - I'm unsure of the ratio though. My diff in the S1 Ghia was a 3.23.

Yes just to get it right in the AU fairmonts all 6's and V8's got 3.23:1 diff ratios.
AU Fairmont Ghias with VCT I6 got 3.45 diff with no option for LSD ( traction control fitted) AU fairmont Ghia V8's 3.23 diff as above LSD was an option on all non IRS models in AUI but dropped in AUII/AUII when traction control became standard across the range not just in the Ghia. |

Yeah. 3.45 diff, switchable traction control, and switchable economy/performance shift patterns. I leave the trans in performance mode alla time and hit the TC-off button when I get in the car, xcept if it's raining I leave it on. a silver pig |

Our is an S2 Fairmont Sedan (non Ghia) and it has a 3.45 diff, which im told is a bit unusual. Was an ex Ford exec car though so that may explain it.

back2thefuture that is odd as in the AUII they dropped the LSD from the option list in the Fairmonts.
Not to say it couldn't be done as the option was still there for the AUII Forte and Futura. |

No AU Fairmonts came with LSD as a standard feature.
AUI Fairmonts except Ghia's or models with IRS option had the option for LSD. AUII/AUIII Fairmonts the option for LSD was dropped. I agree that traction control is the most likely reason as in AUII on traction control became standard across all Fairmonts not just the Ghia. Here is the AUI brochure on the forum. http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...cat=728&page=1 I can post up the AUII spec brochure if you want to compare them. |
