The same day this STUPID plan was released, records were released that South Australia had the worst rate of burglary cases that are solved. This is 7% solved within 3 months of the incident. Maybe police should focus on REAL crime... Whenever you need them, they say they are really busy, maybe its because they are pulling over people because one "P" plate has fallen down, or because there is 5 young people in the car, or to meet their QUOTA! : : : : : :

SA policing is all backwards, they take the easy target rather than the more important target. If theres a p plater with a P fallen down going 55kmh, and a car doing 200kmh in a 60 zone, theyll go for the p plater! pulling that guy over aint gonna make the roads safer leadalone save any lives. I went to court over riding an electric scooter on the road (classed as a bycicle). The juge said straight out to the cops that they were being rediculous and trivial, and asked if this is what policework was comming to in SA. Then suggeste they go focus on some real crimes! Now I know we all think it, but when a judge is telling it straight to the cops, obviously theres a bit of it going on, and its getting a little out of hand!

It won't get the unlicensed druggos off the road, it will just lead to MORE of them driving WITHOUT licenses. Only way is to top them driving is to lock the scum up or let natural selection take its course.

One of my cars was stolen years ago, they didn't even turn up the first night I called. Called them up the next day, "oh yeah, we where a bit busy, what was your address again?" They turned up a few hours later, said they would get CSI to come out the next day, they never did... When the car was recovered they said they would have to leave me with the car, because it wasn't secure. "The person may come back for the car". They could have left some undercovers watching it as they new the person would be back. But no.... Then they wonder why people have contempt for police... 1,000s commit suicide, 150 die on the road, what gets more resources and publicity? :togo:

lol what an off-track thread!
So what if you get pulled over? If you were being an idiot, you deserve it! And whoever said that equals no fun... Grow up, if you want to do stupid crap on the road, go to a track or take it out of town, and do it by yourself... So the only person that you can hurt is yourself...

I am 48 and have been driving for 30 years, and have lived in nearly every state in Australia (except WA and TAS). I ride a motorcycle every day to work and an XA Fairmont and a Land Rover on the weekends and have driven hundreds of thousands of kms, I am SA born and bred from the Glenelg area and now live in Queensland, i guess I am one of those old people SEXR6TASY is talking about, just remember mate that being young does not necessarily make you the best driver. I have had one accident in the car and two on a bike. Both the bike accidents were my fault but the car was by a young person trying to do a burn out and cut across three lanes of traffic and took me out, so being stupid or untalented behind the wheel is not just an old person problem, personally I think the young people are better drivers than I was all those years ago but being "OLD" does not necessarily make us bad.

Well with a good guess that 75% or more people booked are normal mums n dads caught in the rut drivig to work and are probably a few k's over but in no way out there driving stupid. Now here's something new for you, with the extra 20% update in fines ( the second rise in recent times in the name of saftey ) will see more average mums and dads struggling to pay these fines and in their petty undercover cry of saving lives may in fact force more accidents as people trying to pay for these so called life saving fines are now un able to afford say a brake repair or perhaps new tyres, increasing the risk of an accident But i suppose we need not worry about that as we now have extra patrols to catch these people out and yes fine them even more, a real good ploy will be to place these patrols 500m before a speed camera in the morning rush, hold people up, make them late for work, then nab them driving dangerous down the road at 2K over the limit and fine them again. all stupidity aside along with idiot simplifications, below is the crux of this matter.
I pay tax. I pay great big GOBS of tax. Some of it is used to pay for the Justice System (TM) Made by Matel© What I object to is my money being spent by fools pursuing an extremely small amount of crime for political ends, IE being seen by the mindless mouth breathers who watch Today Tonight, to be seen to be "Battling The Epidemic of Motor Related Death!" (TM) Take a look at this. This is the amount of crime we had in SA, Murders, Rape, Assault, Kidnapping, you name it in 2005. Now just look at those numbers. They are pretty damn big numbers. Now lets look at what the police minister and his pet police commissioner focusing on. Do the numbers match up? Even remotely? To be fair, now lets factor in the road related Injuries. Once again, the numbers simply DO NOT FIT. Our Road related injuries and fatalities have been dropping for 50 years despite population growth. How the hell can anyone justify increasing pressure on beat cops and detectives(Whos primary role should be investigating Major & Violent Crime not performing Traffic Stops on Camrys) is beyond all logic.

Maybe they've stopped trying though due to the court system being so weak? Or that rapes/murders/thefts & assaults dont rake in as much money? Hmm I'll let you decide... |

Dave save your breath. You're assuming policy makers actualy care about people.
Rather than number of deaths or injuries, Published figures would be intresting if they were number of deaths per 1000 registered vehicles. Compare 2007 with 1997 then! We'd be doing FAR better. This is the real measure, but the pathetic excuses for pollies won't see this as it doesn't rake in the dough.
