Hey guys and girls, Just wondering if anybody is having the same problems as we are. About a week ago i have noticed one of our outside doors (it faces all the rain and weather) has become very hard to open and close. Almost like it has come off the rails.
And just tonight i noticed the wooden gate we have seems like it has dropped. It is extremely tight to open and close. I think its the rain thats done it, but is there a way to fix it? or will it fix itself? cheers scott

It is the rain, wood expands when it gets wet. It'll be right again come the warmer months.

IIRC, wood swells when its wet and shrinks when its hot, thats why branches from gum trees smash caravans/tents/cars in the bush all the time, a sudden spike in temp makes the wood brittle...

The cells in timber are susceptible to moisture. If you dent timber provided the fibres aren't cut you can recondition the dent by using water towel and an iron. That’s effectively what is happening to your timber frames. But they shouldn't be getting to the point of jamming. There is either two things wrong. The sealer isn't providing the protections against moisture penetration or the tolerance is too tight in the first place allowing seasonal conditions to pinch it.

That's better than my house in the rain. My doors get harder or easier to close depending on how much one side of the house sinks in the ground compared to the other lol.

Our back doors are buggered too. The sliding one comes off the rails and the normal door swings open if it's not dead-locked. Bloody annoying.
