Default Fuel Economy

Hi
Got my new BF XR6 just over a week ago, it now has 1700km on it and im only getting about 400km to a full tank and thats driving to conserve fuel. when driven hard it gets about 300 to a tank.

Is this normal? My 1992 commodore got 600 to a tank so im not really impressed with these figures so far!

No that's not normal. My XR8 gets more than 400km per tank. Maybe fuel economy will improve after a few more kays.

It should improve over the next few thousand km's or so and by 10,000km you should be getting 10-11l/100km depending on your driving habbits etc. They tend to be a bit thirstier when new. My BA XR6 is up to 170,000km and gets a good 700-720km per tank (but I do a lot o hwy driving).

Don't cars tend to use more fuel whilst running in anyway?

My wife's BA wagon gets 500 to 550 out of a tank around town, i believe wagons have a smaller tank than sedans too.

Yeah thats true it will use more fuel & take about 5000kms untill you really start to get the same klms readings,

Just wait untill the MOD bug hits you can only imagine how much fuel you'll use then! :

My ute chewed it right up to 5000klm. Then it levelled out.
Happily get 550+klm around town and 700+klm on the highway (78lt Tank)

try changing your o2 sensor and get the map sensor checked, it shouldn't be using that much unless you give it a really hard time....
as for the topic, as has been said, it should get better as you do more kms

They run rich from factory setting but when you bring it in for the 3000km look through they change the settings a bit

My XD (in sig) is getting ~400 k's to the 72 litre tank, i do a fair bit of highway K's, It sits on about 3,000rpm at 100 K's so im not doing too badly i think. My EB XR8 was worse...

actually for the mods, my fuel usage went down...

xr6t upper snorkel = improvement
f6 lower snorkel = improvement
3" intake = no change

CAPA Tuner.... .... yeah that increased usage by about 4l/100.. but the performance gain is worth it

on VPOWER fuel this weekend i got 650 to a tank. considerably more than i got on ultimate

My brother and i have both at the same time been experiencing bad fuel economy, Mine was about 370km full tank he's was about the same.. We both changed to BP ultimate fuel and now I'm getting 455km min and he is getting 13.2l/100 i check the other day and both cars are responding better.. It might not be your issue but i have been thinking fuel quality had dropped down over the last couple of months.. Now we have been on BP for 4 fill up's and it's still getting better.
I was a Caltex man and my brother a Shell man, Now we are 100% converted to BP.

It does depend on what mods you do install to your car Gazzz, the mods that you have installed wouldn't improve your fuel useage that much mate, what i meant is mods such as EG:4.11 or 3.9 diff ratios,SS 75mm big mouth T/B,Head & cam work,Custom tuned etc....

Considering I get more than that out of my EL on LPG, must be something wrong there.

It's a new engine, it will use a bit of fuel to start off with.

My XR6T was using 24LPH when I first got it, now with 10780km on the clock it's on 11.7 LPH and i do get up it a few times a week as well.

You say to a tank, How much are you putting in the tank, cause I have never put more than 56litres in my tank.

My TS50 only gets 280 ~ 320 km from a tank, and uses premium to produce its 220kw

My BA gets 500 ish km from a tank and uses normal fuel to produce its 220kw

Which means the BA costs about 1/2 the TS to run with the same basic use.

Gearing & trans stall all play their parts in making the TS faster & thirstier for same HP

I luv my TS
