Default What is this bit?

Please excuse my complete lack of engine knowledge but what is that water type bolt return bit in the the picture below?

I need a replacement as mine completely rusted but have no idea what it is called.

would be a guess on my behalf but is it the coolant temp sensor?
could be wrong though...
