Default Looking to buy a Focus

Hi guys - time to get the wife a new(ish) car and was after some opinions you all might have on the Focus. Positive and negative...

She has been getting around in a Festiva Trio for the past 5 years and with the kids growing (as they do) thought it was time for something a bit bigger.

I am looking at an 06/07 LX model with an auto.

Highly recommed the Focus. I got one for my wife and (nearly) two kids earlier this year. I figured she'd go for an auto LX sedan, but in the end she wanted the Zetec hatch in manual. Suits me fine, as I get to drive it a fair bit and the black, hatchback looks pretty cool.

The facelifted model out now comes with curtain airbags and stability control, two things worth having I reckon.

The car has plenty of room, handles well and is very economical. Plus it has enough grunt to keep up with traffic pretty easily. If your wife can manage a manual, the diesel would be the pick of the bunch right now.

Good luck!

I have a black Zetec Hatch, i love it, buy one. i could go on all day and night about how good the car is so i am going to say one negative thing, the price for brand new probably isn't the best so look for something second hand.

I can understand buying a used/demo Falcon/Commodore etc... but with small cars, they tend to hold their values better. Take a look at the prices they go for at auctions... Typically not much in it for a 2-3 year old corolla versus a Commodore, yet there is $10k difference in new price.

I paid $26k driveaway for the Zetec and could have gotten an LX for $24k. That seems cheap enough to me. Just wait til the usual end of month sales push at your local dealer....

Default An honest opinion

We love our 06 Focus LX but we still have pinging issues which Ford CANNOT fix and have said as much. Most of them must use higher octane fuel which can help but doesn't fix the problem for everyone. Also one thing I do not like about the car and is VERY annoying is very little storage space inside the car. (Compared to our previous cars) The centre console is useless. (Although the boot in our sedan is huge) One last thing, we have had numerous comments from people on how smart the car looks. Even strangers in the street.

Yep. It only pings occasionally. Some days are worse than others. Our dealer had the Ford engineers come out and look at it. The verdict was: It is within specifications.

Can you tell me what extra storage compartments the Zetec has that the LX doesn't.

Pretty sure that a Zetec has the same amount of storage as an LX.
