Would it be a safe thing to do.
like on a - -- -- ----road 2 way do you drive right down the middle if no one is coming from the other way? I think it is safer because when it is quiet there is more risk from swiping parked cars than from a head on collision. |

i never do as you never know what could happen, if you then skid and your skid marks are on the wrong side who knows what insurance/cops will think and charge you with or not pay out etc.
i never cut corners either even at night when u can tell no one is coming around the corner. the only way it would be any safer is incase a person or animal runs out onto the road and you have more time to brake/evade them etc |

When I am driving at night in outback VIC or NSW I drive down the middle of the road. I have had to many near hits over the years at night with kangaroo's, emu's, wombat's etc etc to NOT want that extra margin of maneuverability.
I see no danger in it.

When driving along long straight roads when Im out west, I do. Kangaroos have to travel further to hit me, lol.

i definitely drive in the middle of the road at night seeing as im in the country. Kangaroos and other animals can come out of no where and it gives that extra bit of room to move. You only do it when you know the road is clear of other cars.
When in the outback / country thats how you should drive at night. well thats how i was taught anyway. As to all the people having a winge about it..wait till you hit roos and other animals!

When driving at on long deserted roads with a clear vision ahead yes i drive in the middle especially in the pilbara.. At night i do also as you can clearly see oncomming traffic, but in the city etc no i stay to my side

It's either the middle of the road, or the tabledrain!
Most of the roads I travel on are either single lane bitumen or dirt. In roo country, it's a matter of controlling your speed to suit your conditions. I've got more than enough frontal protection to take care of most animals that step out. Except Cows... I don't do cows! Cheers Darran

Yeh Im suburban. Though there is roos in the suburbs like near Wacol, Gailes,etc. though.

I do a fair bit of country driving very early / late and if the coast is clear and I can see ahead a few km then yes i'll drive in the middle.
I have been on raods where ill pass or get passed every 15-20 minutes so i don't think it's all that bad. |
