Default Auto or manual - what do you drive?

As visitors to this forum one could assume we're either enthusiasts... or on the road (pardon the pun) to becoming enthusiasts. I drive a manual for the fun factor, but how about some other people here? Auto or manual?

Manual everytime. And the same for my wife. More Fun. More Control.

My wife's old grandfather use to ask whether you had a Man's license(manual) or a Boy's license (auto)!! Cheeky old bugger he was.

I started club level motorsport (motorkhana's and the like) when I was about 12 in a beat-up old mini. That was manual, and every other car I've owned since has been a manual. Except for a VL commodore i owned for a little while, but i rather not talk about that.
When I was looking for a Focus, it HAD to be a manual.

Seems to be a few manuals here... I'm happy to live without the convenience of the auto just for the kick after 3500RPM and subsequent fun...

For a small car I find manual heaps better because the car doesn't feel sluggish. I have a mate that has a auto Focus and they complain to me it doesn't have enough "balls" like mine

Well he pushes his car to the limit in the auto, so I think it is the car but you can say its me if you really think so.

Small Autos lose torque through the torque converter, hence why they struggle a lot more than their equivalent manual. Manuals are also cheaper to buy and use less fuel in general due to often having more gears and thuse requiring less hard work.

I find small manuals and large autos are the way to go.

Manual. The LS 5sp gearbox is that good, you'd need a pretty good reason tho fork out the extra $$$ for the auto.

My cousin used to do the best neutral bangers in his dads XF auto.

Here's a silly question - but only being new to the focus and seeing as we're in the right thread, I'll ask it anyway... is it normal for the manual box to be quite tight when it's new? do I need to waiting for the car to come to a *complete* stop before trying to get it into 1st? I figured I'd ask as the new car is already going back to the dealer with a fault in the power steering (only got it Friday) so in case I need them to check anything else...
