Default au tranny problems

My mate has a auII 6cyl auto 119000kms he said when he was driving it today the speedo went from 70km back to 0 and the tranny wouldnt change out of 3rd gear. It went back to 2nd after coasting along but over 10kms it was up and down through the gears abnormally. Then all of a sudden the speedo worked again and all was good. It was on flat road that all this happened with no excess weight,

Getting it checked out tomm! Any answers, Maybe electrical or ecu probelem?

It's probably just the speed sensor is stuffed, the problem you describe with it sticking in third is Limp Home Mode, and would have been activated by the ECU when it couldn't detect the speed anymore.

Hit the electrical connectors on the side of the box (under the car) with some WD40 or RP7 etc. Undo the connectors and spray liberally inside each bit to clean them. It may have just been some dust/dirt/grit etc.
