Hey all,
I have a XP falcon with a borg warner 35 Auto, originally a 170 six. I have just purchased a 170 out of another XP to fit. The engine was out of a Manual XP, I have just found that the bolt patern for the bellhousing on the back of the block is different to the bolt patern on the auto. The flywheel on the auto alone, goes over the bolt holes on the block. I assumed that the bellhousing bolts on all 170 falcon sixes are the same? My question is, was there an adaptor plate or something that will make it fit? |

You sure you have a 170. I think it was the 188 and 200's went to the bigger bellhousing. I did see many years ago a plate to adapt but they are prob near impossible to find now.
Failing that you could get a 200 or 250 from a later car to fit your auto. I hope i got this right way round and your auto is the big pattern and the new motor is too small Last edited by gregaust; 11-06-2007 at 12:52 PM. Reason: Misread combo |

I have just learned that my auto is out of an XW (221) with a XP rear housing fitted for the mounting.
Ill look for a adaptor plate, but looks like in after an engine or auto by the look of it. Yes, the engine bolt patern is too small Greg

I have just checked the original 170 from the XP, it has the bigger / wider bolt patern.
Quite confusing......... |

Does it say it is a 170 on the block,from memory is cast in. Might be time to update to 250 big block.

Yea Greg, its definatly a 170 mate.
I found an adaptor plate! Found it after a few calls I did have a 250 in it at one stage, but i just wanted an engine asap, and the 170 came from a forum member at the right price, im not complaining

170 came in two sizes. narrow block up to XM and early XP 3spd manual/ 2spd auto. Back of block was made wider to fit the BW35
