Default Stephen changes oil.

As many of you may know, I have been a huge advocate of Mobil 1 engine oil over the years , and have had it in my car from 3,000km.

This is a result of my having done a fair bit of work with Mobil some years back, and having seen all the comparative test results.

However, it has always bothered me that Mobil doesn't carry Mobil 1
5W- 30 in Australia, and I have always used their recommendation of Mobil 1 10W-30, rather than the 5W-30 Ford recommends for the Focus

I know Castrol has a "synthetic" 5W-30, but it is a fairly low grade "synthetic" technology plus I personally won't go near Castrol.

So, after some months of research (cause I'm like that!), I have finally abandoned Mobil 1, and switched to Motul 300V Power Racing 5W-30 Synthetic.

http://www.motul.com.au/product_line...4stroke05.html

It is simply superior synthetic technology (double ester synthetic) to that used in Mobil 1 (which is a superior technology to Castrol Edge), and whilst the Motul is more expensive than Mobil 1, no where near as expensive as something like Redline, but IMO superior to Redline .

Have only just done the oil change, but the "seat of the pants" dyno says it feels terrific (however, I also found a hole in my CAI hose and fixed that so who knows!!), but the engine does seem to spin more far more freely with the lower weight oil.

Price (sit down Adam) is $49.90 for 2 litres, and available from Ricerbarn. That's a fair bit of money, but I have always considered a top synthetic oil to be really cheap insurance, and when you're talking $70 just to fill the fuel tank these days, $100+ dollars for a top engine oil is worth it I reckon.

Over the top for the Focus? Of course!, but then so are most of the mods we do.!!!!!

They can keep it. I change my oil every 5,000km and I think Mobil 1 at $80 is enough for me because I use 10w30 which my cousin(mechanic) recommends better for an engine that has done over 100,000km like mine has.

Fair call Adam. Mine has only done 50,000km and has used Mobil 1 since "new" (after run in).
