Hey all, just wondering whether using a product like Wynns spitfire injector cleaner every so often will benefit the engine re; performance and durability?
cheers.

Just my opinion Jim, but you're better off always buying premium fuel, which has a higher level of detergency additives, and keeping the injectors clean, rather than cleaning them up every now and then

Yes, as melbzetec said... we don't need any injectors cleaners if we're constantly running on PULP.

The over the counter injector cleaners are pretty much a waste of time and even using Premium fuel your injectors will still get dirty enough to affect power and economy, it's just it will take a little longer

I used to always run 98 RON on my fiesta, it gave the enigine the bigger spark and better performance not to mention better fuel econ.
My sujestion would be maybee at your next service get them to check your injectors. Just incase.

thanks guys... i'll try out the 98. My mate who has a '97- peugeot 306 XSI says the 98's quite a lot better too. I was surprised to find out that the fiesta kept nose to nose with his 2.0 XSI the other day, loving this car...

we use a carbon blaster at work, that gets most of the carbon build up out of your injectors.
subaru also use a uec (upper engine cleaner) to clean out intake manifold/throttle bodies/ valves. would defineatly recommend anyone to do a uec as we have seen an increase in power figures after uec has been carried out. from memory it was 29hp on a porsche 911 turbo |

on the upper engine cleaner, found this on another forum...
http://www.syndicatemotorsports.org/...?showtopic=468 Because Subarus are a flat four or horizontally opposed (correct technical term) engine they are prone to carbon build up in the inlet manifold. There is chemical spray you can get to clean it all out which can give significant gains in the overall performance of the engine depending how dirty it is. People with brand new Subarus or guys who have there Subarus serviced at a Subaru dealership will automatically get this done everytime they go in for a service. But if you do your own oil changes and services this is something you will want to do about every 10,000km's or at every oil change is a good idea. Also if you get your Subaru serviced at just a general mechanic you might want to check with them to see if they are using this stuff, if not do it yourself. The can cost about $17 from subaru. (IMG:http://azzasuploads.homestead.com/files/upper.jpg) Instructions are on the back of the can as far as application is concerned. (IMG:http://azzasuploads.homestead.com/files/upper2.jpg) (IMG:http://azzasuploads.homestead.com/files/upper3.jpg) On the GC8 model Subaru you pull this gromet off and spray it in there. For newer Subaru models you should be able to find a similar gromet around the top of the IM. For older Subarus if there is no gromet just spray it down a hose that leads into the IM. Once again instructions for application are on the can. Once done take it for a good drive and put the engine under load, depending on how dirty it is you might blow a fair bit of smoke, this is good
