I've got a XR cluster in my XL ute and have just finished putting the header tank under the bonnet, i just need to know where the wires go.
After a chat with the auto-elec/machanic at my local ford dealer we are assuming that the black wire goes to earth and the red wire goes directly to the cluster. Any help would be appreciated.

Mate of mine has a series one Forte and he asked me the same thing. Had a real good hunt around and carefully folded over itself and taped up right away from there was the plug. Makes sense a generic harness is used as much as possible to keep production costs down.

So the red wire goes directly to cluster, not throught the BEM or anything, and the black goes to earth

Did you have a look for any taped up connectors either under the tank or taped to the wiring harness as Howsey posted.
