Default Early Xr8 Bonnet Bulge

I'm having trouble proving to my mate that the GT and Xr8 bonnet bulges were changed prior to the release of the ba falcon. If you look at the early ads for ba xr8 utes and sedans aired and printed before their release, the bonnet bulge has a crease at the front, rather than simply tapering down to the curve of the bonnet as it does on any production car I have seen. IMHO I like the look of these early bonnets better, and was dissapointed when the car was finally released. When trying to share my dissapointment with other ford loving friends, they don't know what I'm talking about.....surely someone can tell me if I'm crazy or not....

try and find a pic of the promo blue GT V8 Supercar that had the original bonnet. And yes I agree, the pre release bonnet was 10x better looking, however aparently it wasn't as stiff as Ford would have liked

I also know the bonnet you are talking about .. BUt not sure wether i like it more or not.... The clay sculpture of the xr8 in the ford descovery center at Geelong has the original bulge form memory....

Here's the pre-production concept for the BA GT. Notice it has the earlier bulge too. Personally I prefer the original too.

as long as there's a bulge on my bonnet, I'm happy

but seriously these pre-production one's look good...definitely give the car a beefier look than current one's.

yeah the current one looks better Tonko, hence why it was probably the design they settled on.

The current bulge looks a lot better looks as though it was meant to be there.

Where as the original one looks like it was just placed on the top of the bonnet.

actually, i prefer the current one aswell. looks more integrated to the car and not like they crapped themselves and said the motor doesn't fit, quick, gimme a hammer.

The original is mint, never knew they changed it. Not spewin too hard tho, as the one they settled on is still hot stuff.

yeah I prefer the new one too, looks slightly better intergrated into the design of the car, but seriously we're splitting hairs here aren't we ?

It had to be changed due to the high scrap rate they were getting in the stamping plant of the pre production versions. The front edge on the early version had a nasty habit of creasing in the wrong spot and then they would need to be scrapped. Changing the front edge of the bulge to the current smoother version fixed the problem.

exactly my thoughts. original looks like an afterthought. the mockup at bathurst may just be the paint job giving the appearance that it is further up the bonnet. all other pics are artist impressions only!

thats right Bossxr8, i was told the same thing by one of the bulge designers they where getting a lot of "oilcanning" in the metal and the only way to solve it was to change the design, he hates it now.

the early GT's had 2 leg boot spoilers missing the centre leg.
FPV put them in due to vibrations when they were tested. Some of the early pics show these 2 leg spoilers

I've got to go with the current one, and that's not because I have one. It seems to flow with the lines better and looks sleeker and integrated with the bonnet. The original one looks out of place.
