wont apply to many people but to the ones it does they will be greatfull :P
well after driving around with Xr lights on my car(s) for 2 and a half years i have finally figured out how to fix the high beam issue. what used to happen was you would flick on high beam on the stalk and the lows would go out. after looking at The NC Sportsman loom i just pulled out i noticed a diode? pluged into the wiring loom which is located under the coolant bottle, i have seen this plug heaps of times on my car with nothing plugged in there. i also noticed that the low beam relay on the NC was a Blue 5 pin one not a Grey 4 pin like normal. so i pluged both in and what do you know the high beam worked as normal! so all that is needed to fix the proble is the diode thing (has a brown top with yellow plug) and a 5 pin relay for the low beams. these can be found on all Fairlanes/LTD's as they are wired up like the XR lights are as they use the same globes. i will get a pic soon so people will know what to look for. |

Thanks for the tip! I wondered WTF was up with that when I converted my car, but never really bothered to look into it.

well I changed the relay over but it still does it....
I rarely used high beams anyway, but ti would be nice if I didn't have to hold the stalk towards me when they are needed...lol

Not sure because EA's never came out iwth those quad lights however you may be lucky. You may find it or something similiar down behind the battery.

your right, only ED XR's came with them. a few people have worked it out. the diode is in a simlar place but with the EA's you have to more the wire on the 5 pin relay from 87 and plut it to 30 and apparently that solves the issue. ill post later today and tell you if it works

if it were me, i'd go and look at how an NA Fairlanes wiring is..
the fairlanes have exactly the same setup as the XR's for the wiring to the globes..... if you can replicate the NA's setup you'll get it spot on |
