Default Cougar Security

Any ideas please? My Cougar intermittently refuses to kick over as the security/immobiliser system will not come off. The key turns all the way and the red light on the dash flickers. After some period of time the problem seems to resolve itself - until the next time. Ford don't seem to have any clues so I though I would hand this one over to the brains trust. Thanks in anticipation.

welcome to the forums. I think one of the guys had an issue similar to this. Have you tried with your spare key? It may be a issue with it.

I thought that the chip in the actual key is the key to the system??

has the key been dropped??

Thanks for the spam! Now go back to your corner of the forum! :P

yes, there are chips in the keys. It's how they are programed to the immobilizer. Also, any new key needs to be programed using the 2 original ones. So yeh, give the other(spare) key a go.

Hmm... haven't had that one happen... But appears to be something in the security system...

Would try and check www.newcougar.org/forums if you come up with nothing.

...and welcome to the forums - hoping you're enjoying the Cougar (aside from this issue!)

Thanks for the response. The keys have been recoded but it seems to make no difference. I have two keys and each fail on occassions. Very frustrating!! Any other ideas? Apart from this problem what can I say a - a great car to drive.

Bit mystified by this one clayholes, there should be a DTC recorded I would think if the system does not work. Have you any idea what code was stored?

Maybe ask the ford guys that might help in solving the problem.
