Mine does this whenever I run the tank right down, and then fill it up. Usually registers full for a few seconds when I start it, then goes flat empty with the light on. Flickers to full every now and then but goes straight back to empty. Happens usually for the first 20kms or so of each tank.

Usually when this happens though, the DTE figures are still accurate, but occasionally, DTE creeps down km by km down to 0.

My remedy so far has been to ignore it!

Default Fuel Guage.

Your problem is probably a faulty fuel tank sender unit.

Mine does the same thing as well. Although I only fill mine till to the first click. I want to take the tank out to have a look, but having an empty tank and a weekend come together is rare. It is annoying but goes after you drive a little.

Yep mine does the same,I rang ford and they did a TSB???? (or what ever they call it) release that states they acknowledge theres a problem with wagon fuel gauges/sender unit and would replace it for you (You pay of course) if it is removed for something else, this is not a recall.
They have since changed the design/material on the sender unit so they say.

There is one on ebay now $99.....

its in the tank....on a wagon you can remove it from the lh side without removing the tank..just behind the rear wheel....
