Don't know the limiter, but i do know they are a ripper of a car. We rented one for work for 2 weeks ... and 2nd and 3rd gear chirpies were insane.

Irrelevant what the rev limiter is... Hiluxes were made to sit on exactly that point for as long as you damn well want!

grasshoper?, i know what a limiter is, thats why i asked where is it set @ on the 2.7 because the basemodel (workmate) doesnt have a tacho.
WAGGACLINT: thanks for that, i wonder if the autos are set different?

My workute is a new 2.7 Workmate dual cab. It doesn't have a tacho so I can't say how far it will rev, but I have had it up to 190kph. That is flat out (on a closed to the public road of course). It doesn't appear to be speed limited in top gear, except by the cabability of the engine.
My 2004 Hilux dual cab would do 180kph before it cut me off. This was only at 5000rpm. It would obviously rev more in the lower gears. |

LOL, i must be confusing people, hmmm.
I know what a limter is ie valve bouncing, as i already stated, 1st revs out @ 45ks, 2nd @ 80 etc (hits the limiter) but because it doesnt have a taco i dont know what rpm it is. thats why im asking

I recently sold my 1997 4 cyl hilux and i dont ever recall hitting the limiter, and i used to push the guts out of it. Often when the LSD was being a jerk and spin 1 wheel around a tight turn, the revs would go through the roof, but never hit the limiter. It had a tacho and it passed the 6k mark a lot. I think those motors make peak power and torque at 4000rpm. They handle the high revs well! But still nothing like the 500Nm the BOSS has!!

Sorry to sidestep here, but does anyone else hate the way the rev limiter in the Boss V8 just cuts the engine dead, then kicks back in. I like the ones that cut in and out really quick, so your revs still stay up there.

have done several thousand kays in both a workmate manual, and a ba2 falcon ute(mine). would have the falcon any day of any week. doesn't drive like a truck, doesn't have a mongrel gearbox, nicer aircon that doesn't smell like a smelly sock, and all the extras. rant rant. sorry yes they rev hard but in the interests of safety, the rear end loses traction way too easy, and way easier than the falcon. my off topic 2c anyway. :

Dont see the interest in them either, the 'new car smell' they have is putrid, the vinyl seats are nasty, the gearstick is 1m long. I could get the old 2.4L Hilux to chirp 3rd gear :p
The 2.7 in the Hiace has a limiter, dont remember what it is though, probably 6.5k. Dont think I ever bothered to hit it in the Hilux, rather drive the Rangers we have.

Yeah my falc stick like S#*t to a blanket. Obviously if i dump it at high revs it lights up all over the place, but handles much, much better than the lux. (luv the comment about the smelly sock - couldnt agree more)!!
