Fpv's will always be more desirable than a xr8, or xr6,
That was what ford intended when they released them. Again restricting parts designed for fpv's to fpv owners only only increases there value, there are some companies out there that remanufacture fpv parts and do quite well out of it, How many people do you know that want a fpv?
They are worth the extra cash because of the exclusivity factor, I have met countless people who want a fpv but use the bullshit line that they couldn't justify the extra cash, well my answer to this is you are the one missing out not me.

If you're happy with what you've bought who cares.

A FPV isn't good value. Neither is a XR. A Kia will get you where you're going and in the same time.

Yes I believe the current FPV range is overrated (especially when compared to the current crop offered from HSV). I can't see the justification with spending 20k+ over an XR8 for a GT. I don't see where the 20k+ is spent and where it is spent is probably not the right areas. I guess its all about bragging rights.

I would say that the FPVs are definitely NOT overrated compared to Fords, ie XRs. My reasons are the following (and they are my personal reasons, which may not be the same as anyone else's):

- I would love to have an FPV, whatever that represents (to me, the higher end of the market, the extra bits, the look, the image)
- I love the look of FPVs
- I love the GTs - I dont care that much if they only have 30kw more than an XR8, its still fast at 290kw and there is something about that NOISE and the GT name... something that is more than money, or kw on a dyno... something which does link back to the old GTs, the classics and what they were back then... I think to own a GT you need to look past things like value for money and just consider "value".... there is so much more to it than clean facts, there is emotion with GTs and if you dont feel that, then buy the XR8....
- the Typhoon would have to be one of the best cars around for the money. Look at the engine strength over the XR6T, the interior, the FPV extras like brakes.... its just a great car for the money.
- The increase in money is not THAT much more really, and you do get more than you realise - most people probably dont realise the differences between base models and FPVs

All in all, I love the FPVs and one day I WILL have one. GT or Typhoon? Dunno. Maybe one of each.

I also think that you have to drive them all to have a real opinion about whether they are overrated. I have driven XTs, XR6s (own one obviously), XR6Ts, XR8s and FPVs. In manual and auto. Driving the FPVs are just awesome, they are great cars and they are NOT slow. And they are not really all that expensive compared to what you would get in Europe for the money either, if you want to compare!

I also LOVE the old school GTs and muscle cars generally. Not more, not less than FPVs but the same in different ways. Its like, I love apples and I love steaks. Both the same but for different reasons. I will turn my head to look at an old GT just as much as I do for a brand spankers GT... Love them all! Ideally I would have both!

I like this:

and this:

as much as these:

Not overrated. I have driven a variety of E - B series falcons and owned an old XA coupe, AU forte and now of course the S1 AU XR VCT
The forte, although modded by a fair amount with cams, exhaust, suspension, driveline etc cannot compare to the VCT or even the coupe.

And I like it that I own the very first of the AU XR's and 1 of only I think 1300
Sure it's nothing like owning 1 of 300 or 400 but not many had the S1 bodykit and the bi plane spoiler and galaxy blue. So that cuts the numbers down a little.

The difference is in the handling, seats and ride plus I love the XR cluster over the rest.
Although a F6 typhoon may be faster than a GT, nothing beats the sound of a 290 V8

Considering these are locally made cars, they are sensational and I bet would blow away or stick it to american cars and probably handle alot better.

This always amuses me.

XR8 RRP $44990, GT RRP $62210 not $20k+ only $17220

GT; prestige colour, auto, premium audio, dual zone climate control all standard whereas expensive options on XR8.
GT; 19" wheels, 290kw engine, brembo front brakes and bodykit all standard whereas not available at all on XR8.
GT; IS A GT.........not a XR8.

hi XRchick,
Thank you for saying nice things about my Neo Typhoon......I do like it too. I agree with your comments, all the cars shown are great. Current FPV's beat the current non FPV's no question - BUT the XR6, XR6T and XR8's are very good cars.

Over rated? I don't think so, The FPV's IMO are a great car.
Value for money? well that is relative to the persons current financial situation and if that person believes they are getting value for their dollar.

My 2 cents anyway!

My 2 cents.

You either like 'em or you don't!

If you've never had one, you may never be able to give a truthful answer on this one.

It's not about how fast they go or how quick it covers the quater mile. It deeper then that (for me anyway). That's just all **** once you get on the highway where these vehicles are meant to be (you can only do the speed limit anyway). It's about the driving experience and how it affects you, the driver. It's about the total package. Brakes, performance on the open road, along with economy, handling, creature comforts. All these and possibly more come into answering this question.

Personally, I believe every Ford supporter should be allowed to experience the difference at least once in there life time and I hope everyone can achieve that goal.

And if you don't believe anything of what I have just said, then believe this one thing and this alone is all you need to know, "There is a Difference".

Odd comment. Apart from coming from someone who drives an '84kw' VC auto commodore, it shows your a knowledgeable folk when it comes to cars. Im sure that most people that have bought these cars Tickford/FPV (me included) didnt just buy because of the power output there is plenty of other things to these cars then the engine output (typical of a holden owner, need engine output on the side of car to make up for something thats lacking) i get in my TE im surrounded buy all the creature comforts (for a car thats 6yo) that i could want plus a car that handles, brakes and does everything i want it to do :the_finge

When i first walked into my Ford Dealer i thought there was no way you could justify spending the extra $$$ on a Typhoon over an XR6T..

I must say after test driving a ba mkII phoon before i purchased the xr6t i can see the reason behind the price difference...

The phoon not only went quicker than my xr6t but out handled and out braked it.. I could not believe what a difference it made. Now that i think about it i should have bit the bullet and bought the phoon, but the boss would have used my balls as earings!

In other words it is for sure, without a doubt worth the extra $$$

i had en EF GLi, and being my first car i wanted nice rims, exhaust, and lots of other things, then when i got rid of it i just got the XR (EF, either that or fairmont ghia) becuase they had those little things that made it that bit better, and apart from headers and CAI there isnt really anything else major ill do to it. If i had kept the GLi who knows how much i would of spent...

so IMO the tickfords are worth it...

I don't think they are are waste of money at all, I dont think there is 1 bloke or woman that can sit in there lounge and and turn there ba falcon xt into something like a GT or a Typhoon. Just think Brakes, Suspension, performance, rims (tyres), body kits, entertainment, interior, thats all I can think of at the moment I'm quiet sure theres alot more!!!!!!!

I think they are worth it in that way, even though I will never have the cash for one...............lol

Fact of the matter is for a group like us (read car enthusiasts), where are you going to get these days 300hp/225kw+ sports saloon from $45k, is the size in between a BMW 5 and 7 series thats comfortable, handles well with some fun for the enthusiastic driver and looks damn good from about every angle. I rate Holdens in the same basket and its a matter of year/model as one always gets ahead of the other with each new model they release.

But if your hobby is gardening and your favourite magazine is home beautiful then perhaps spending the extra cash on the XR/FPV model is pointless spending.

You wanna talk over priced and over rated....A look-a-like XW GT for upwards of $30,000.......a Phase III for upwards of $100,000, and in some cases as much as $683,000......get ********n' real, that just hysteria.

I work with a guy who owns a nice BA GT-P, and is completing the transformation of a very, very nice XW Fairmont into a Phase II copy, and talks about how special the XW will be when finished.

Well you'd hope so considering they cost another $35k new.

You can pick up a good 2003 GT-P privately with 70k kms on the clock for around $35k these days which is just under half its original cost...Good 2003 XR6 NA's with similar kms are going for around $19k which is around half their original cost...so on a side by side comparision the depreciation is as bad for both models. XT's similar situation $15,000 for a good low km 2003 model...again just under half original cost
