Today, finally, after 2 weeks of sitting around looking for work i got myself another apprenticeship.
Basically, its with a big electrical/security/plumbing/carpentry company in brisbane. Initially i'll be going in utilising my open cabling license, doing data/comms stuff but moreso learning about the security side of things, CCTV, Access control and so on and so forth. I'll pickup the apprenticeship again next year. Failing that, i managed to pass the aptitude test with Stowe, interview with them next month for a feb start (backup plan). I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am in keeping my nose in the industry, the EBA wage rise for construction sparkies is phenomenal (i'd be on about $30/hr as an apprentice). While i wont get anywhere NEAR that outside the bigger companies/mines, i see it as something positive for later on. school leavers IMHO should be definately trying to pickup an apprenticeship. Stay at home, put up with the crap $$$ cos in the next decade at least you'll be just fine. Big thanks to those who pm'd me with leads, ideas and suggestions and support. And i'd also like to address anyone else on here who is unemployed and actively looking for work, im not sure how you feel about it but i reckon the past two weeks of being without a job was one of the most stressful and depressing times of my life (im only 23, it'll get worse). My advice is to apply for everything and anything, get your name out as many places as possible and eventually you'll find something (or it may find you, as it happened to me)
