Default Latest Govt. media release on ACT Dragway

2 June 2005

DRAGWAY ADVISORY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED

The CEO of the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society, Geoff Cannock,
will chair a committee appointed to advise the Government on the
construction of a dragway in the Majura Valley, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope
announced today.

"In accordance with its pre-election commitment, the ACT Government has
established a Dragway Advisory Committee, comprising community
representatives, individuals with an interest in dragway and motor sports
and government officials. The committee will advise the Government on the
establishment of a dragway in the Majura Valley," Mr Stanhope said.

"The Government remains committed to a dragway and has shown that commitment
by allocating $8 million in capital funding for the project.

"The construction of a dragway is a significant undertaking. The Dragway
Advisory Committee will help work through issues including the
appropriateness of a site in the Majura Valley, and help ensure that all
factors, including noise and other environmental considerations, are
properly considered.

"I thank the members of the Dragway Advisory Committee for agreeing to
participate in this important process."

The members of the Dragway Advisory Committee are:

Mr Geoff Cannock (chair) - CEO Royal National Capital Agricultural Society
