Default tc corty gear box swap

Looking at a tc-td corty.
2 lt however one has the manual gear box, which we dislike and won't want.
Can i slot in a c4 or borg warner box with just a change of bell housing or does it need the tail shaft as well?

cheers

Hey,

unfortunaly no matter what auto box you put in, whether it be a c4 or borgy, the tail shaft will need to be changed as well cause the auto boxes are typicly a bit longer, you can get you existing tail shaft cut down if its to long. the cortys came out with a 3speed borg waner 35 gear box, there pretty easy to find as almost all cortys have that gear box stock.

Hope this helps

so another idea would be to try and get the gear box, alog with the tail shaft.
Did the 6cyls have the c4?
The bell housing would also need to be changed to the auto wouldn't it?

I used to have a td as a first car, brilliant unit, so i am kinda excited as to the thought of getting another to pair up with the xb.

Hey,
the cortina's never came out with a C4 auto so it will have to be the borg warner 35 auto and tail shift to suit. The 6's have the same gearboxes that the 4's did, for the complete conversion you will need the box, tailshaft, auto gearbox crossmember and the auto pedal box, stall converter and the kick down linkage on the throttle for the auto box, um i think thats it. And yes the bellhousing on the car would need to be changed from the manual one you have, to the auto one that suits the box you want to put in. you can put a C4 unit in you will just have to get a adaptor bellhousing that will adapt it to the 2 litre pinto motor, however putting a big heavy strong C4 is going to rob alot of touque and power from the 2Ltr if you not planing on putting in a big v8 or strong 6 i'd just stick with a borg warner 35 they can handle a 4.1Ltr 6 so a 2 Ltr is no problem.
