Default Sat nav cruise control

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/14/n...ruise-control/

Essentially, the cruise control unit picks up what the speed zone is via the sat nav... prob won't work in parts of Sydney with variable speed zones (ie. The Tunnel)

That would be so cool, but it may not be accurate enough

The one thing the [EX] judge hasn't used as an excuse for speeding ...Lol....

You'd be surprised how accurate they'd be. Decent GPS devices can pinpoint your location and bearing within an average of 60cm of accuracy, ie: it may say you are up to 60 cm away from where you are. When it comes to judging speed, they have a very similar degree of accuracy, no worse than the variation in speedo accuracy.

Sorry, clicked too early. Now for some reason I cant edit my post, here is what I was intending on saying:

You'd be surprised how accurate they'd be. Decent GPS devices can pinpoint your location and bearing within an average of 60cm of accuracy, ie: it may say you are up to 60 cm away from where you are. When it comes to judging speed, they have a very similar degree of accuracy, no worse than the variation in speedo accuracy.

Since this is a Radar controlled system, as they mention in the article, I would look at it with a certain amount of scepticism. The concept they describe has been around for years. There have been test roads built with beacons built into the road, allowing cars to drive quite literally without any further human input. There have been systems that automatically brake when the car senses it it moving towards something at high speed (Ie: when someone doesnt realise the car infront has slowed, and they end up nearly running up the back of the person infront, the car will brake for the driver).

So the concept isnt new, it just took a while to be put into a production car. In this case, has been a merging of ideas so to speak.

A GPS system, working in unison with a Radar system has been around as a concept for a while, however I think it will be a while before we see something accurate enough to be considered in any way safe.

It will be interesting to see how Nissan go with this.
