Default Poetry and Beers

Been sitting here tonight with a few cold ales and for some reason had an urge to write a poem.. Don't ask me what inspired it,, or what brought on the urge to have a mangina but anyway given my giddy state I didn't think it was too bad :P

End of Another Year

2007 the year that was rolls on by
So long to 365 days, sure time flies
Dusk to dawn, cold and hot, moon thru sun
Another year down, so what has been done

Chinese traditionalists say it was the year of the boar
Some rolled in the mud, while others flew and soar
Another twelve months of striving to be your best
Or trying so hard to only to finish second in the contest

A year of ups and downs, tragedy or bliss
Perhaps things went well, but always hit and miss
Cosmic fate, karma or any other excuse
Turn a page on the calendar, so what made the news

Anna Nicole Smith, running a different race
Boris Yelstin former leader of a crazy place
Lucaino Pavarotti a voice like no other
Marcel Marceau a voice only to his mother

Evel Kenevel; diabetes was a stunt he couldn’t beat
Chris Benoit in the square ring so hard to defeat
The year rolls by and so do soles of men
Great men, daft men it is now and again

That the world sits back and ponders time
The direction we are heading, from birth to prime
Are we making progress and moving along
Metering the resources right or wrong

Conceivable it is a harsh place to live our Earth
40 000 km of breathing, living, spinning girth
As 2007 ends is it time to dance to another tune
Over beers and deep ponderings on a summer afternoon

Iraq and the world police wearing stars and stripes
Taliban, armed forces, insurgents and militant types
The world rolls around her axis 365 more times
People fighting and dying, the body count climbs

As the year passes and we still wonder why
The people of the world battle to a blood red sky
Somalia, Afghanistan and Israel in constant distress
Destined to be nothing more than a memorialised mess

We amuse ourselves but Mother Nature must have her say
As penance to man perhaps for our habit of decay
Peru and its quake that rated an eight
The world is rumbling, perhaps that’s our fate

It isn’t all sad and sorrow for the year just passed
Plant at 63 brought Zepplin back, what a blast
The last Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold a stack
Al Gore put the Nobel Peace Prize on his rack

Oscar time; The Departed was pick of the flicks
For ping pong fans, Jimmy Bartel was Lord of the kicks
The Storm looked good all year, deservedly took the flag
England and boring Rugby put the World Cup in their bag

Man United took the Premier League trophy yet again
Tander took the pot much to blue blooded bane
Federer is on the case, another Wimbledon slam was his
Kimi Raikkonen and his Ferrari go kart did the biz

Car Hoons, Scruby and inflated muscle car prices
IQ Foxtel, Mobile phone watches and other devices
The year of 2007 have we continued the bound
Technology is everywhere, anything left to be found

The Indians knew primitive ways to save their place
Modern man and all his knowledge, desecration is the disgrace
After the year ends and we begin yet another one
Man and Woman should reflect on what was done

The world is wearing out, not a secret at that
Perhaps more needs to done that a whimsical chat
But not lets us ponder on the doom and gloom
For many 2007 was a year of success and boom

Now lets all spend a minute to dwell and reminisce
2008 is coming, here is to hoping it is full of bliss
It may be dire but the world will still go around
Let’s just hope and prey Ford take the V8SC crown

I'd need to hear it with the music to get the real mangina effect but from what I've read, you can type - that is beyond question. /jk

Good read Racecraft, plenty happened this year hey! Seems like more and more happens in less and less time. The last verse, by the way, is sig worthy ;)

A good reflection on the year mate - you've really hit the mark with a few of those lines.
