Default Brake conversion suggestions for Escort MK2

Hey guys

I am putting in an SR20 Twin cam (non turbo) into a 77 mk2 Escort and would love to have minilites 13's on them but I have a feeling that I won't be able to fit brakes that will actually stop me!

Anyone done something simular that can give me some advice?

Hey there,
i would say go and see Mark at MD conversions at blacktown, and get some adive on a brake upgrade, he really knows everything there is to know about brakes on those's cars, i got a brake upgrade on my corty to 4 pots so yeah he can do just about anything, i would say a WB one tonner calipers and xd rotors seem to be the go but you will need to upgrade you booster to. and i think a 14 in wheel is a minimum on that combo, but if you wana stop... good brakes save you once and they've paid for themselves.

i am being told that if you got the early capri front legs, the capri disc is 9.25 inch and the calipers will stop good to about 160bhp (pinto power) any bigger power wise and youre gonna need bigger wheels mate.

obviously thy vented / grooved dioscs, hot pads, and braided hoses maybe some ducts to vent cool air to them, but in reality nothing beats size bud.

pls let me know how the SR20 thing goes, as thats the mod i plan in the new year to my MK1. (dont you just love half cuts!)

You can get willwood 6 piston calipers that will fit under thirteens and they will stop you in a heart beat, not cheap though, try burtonpower.co.uk or rallydesign.co.uk

Thanks for the info guys, once the conversion is done I'll post some pics, looks like i'll be doing the cheaper option this time round... Maybe do the more expensive options and stick to cosworth etc on the next project.

Again, thanks for thetips and redders I'll make sure I let you know how the engine conversion goes.

ok,a very simple and effective conversion is Volvo 4 pot calipers,ke tx3 turbo rotors minimal mods to fit ,very cheap as well.

Ive done this on my RS2000,and I trackday this car the brakes are great.

Thanks heaps for that, I saw a link to the volvo conversion on another thread on spanner fodder which is just awesome. I'll probably end up going that way - looks to be cheap and easy. What size wheels are you running on your RS2000?
