Default 97 Mondeo Auto Trans Jeking Issues

I know a similar thread has been posted a while ago but i thought id start a fresh one so i can combine a few ideas i have seen on other threads with similar issues and hopefully a possible fix..

My Brother/Sister inlaws 97 Mondeo Auto has the following "INTERMITTENT" issue, therefore broken bands can be ruled out?

WHen the thing hits top gear (auto) about 2000 rpm and just over 60kph the thing gets out of top and doesnt know which gear to stay in therefore getting a jerking reaction from the car.

From other threads,

Check VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor... shouldnt this come up on the diagnostics?

Check TSS TURBINE SPEED Sensor ...

From another Ford Forum .......

"Before shelling out lots of your hard earned on a complete strip, can I suggest a new TSS is tried first. Turbine speed is used by the PCM to calculate convertor slip and gear ratios, so any problems in this area will give rise to concerns you describe. A code may not be raised for this component if it is failing within limits ie max and min readings are not exceeded but are at the wrong level for the given circumstances."

Maybe it is the TSS ( i think the poms call the convertor a Turbine?)
as it didnt come up on the diagnostics either.

Another issue was a multiplug at the front/top of the box could get corrosion in it...the only multiplug i could see is the one on the selector unit just next to the battery. (any advice if there is another multiplug on the tranny??)

Lastly does anyone know of a shop in Adelaide that specialises in this type of car.
I feel my sister in laws pain as she had replaced the tranny with a NEW one 4 odd years ago for big bucks.

Now the local shops wont even play with the car for under 2 grand.

Lots of dollars to fix a potentially faulty sensor.

Where are the above mentioned sensors??.

ANY Advise will be greatly apprciated.

Paulie

Is it actually shifting between 3rd and 4th or is the torque converter locking and unlocking when in top?

That was just a wild guess as I've seen the issue before on an auto car that has done heaps of mileage.

Usually the torque converter will only lock up once the engine is at it's optimal temperature, maybe it's trying to lock while the engine is cold or something like that.

I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, but if you can nail down exactly what the issue is and when it happens that might help.

This particular fault occurs when the thing is warm...
